The Hurricanes, who have missed the playoffs each of the past nine seasons, have gotten a new owner Eric Tangradi Jersey Womens , general manager and coach so far this year and will have a very different team on the ice.”When you’ve gone as long as we have without making the playoffs the message is we want to be better, we want to compete and we want to win,” GM Don Waddell said. ”We have a lot of other possibilities, pieces to move around. We wanted to acquire the best players we could and let the rest shake out as we move forward.”Waddell started shaking up the roster by shipping out two pending restricted free agents in Lindholm and Hanifin and added a right-shot defender in Hamilton who could make co-captain Justin Faulk expendable. The Hurricanes should trade for a goaltender and could move Faulk and winger Jeff Skinner soon.”We’ll stay busy,” Waddell said. ”I can’t say for sure anything will get done. Until then we’ll keep battling.”Crawford, who helped the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup in 2013 and 2015, also missed most of last year and the start of this season because of a concussion. The pair of head injuries in a relatively short time period raises questions about whether he might play again.“It looks rough, how he hit his head on the post,” defenseman Connor Murphy said, “especially a guy like that who battled so hard to come back and was such a big part of our team. To me, he was our best player. … Hopefully he’s back soon.”Collin Delia was recalled from Rockford of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis when Crawford went on IR. Cam Ward made 30 saves in the victory over the Predators.“Our thoughts are obviously with Crow, and our hopes and prayers that he comes back healthy sooner than later,” Ward said. “I think for him, he’s got a family and you’re obviously very concerned.”The 24-year-old Delia began last season in the ECHL before being promoted to Rockford and then making his NHL debut in March. The international competition runs from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Vancouver, British Columbia.“It’s a great opportunity, we think, for him, but also for our team,” Colliton said. “We’re thinking about what kind of player he’s going to be months down the road and in years down the road. It’s a chance for him to go there and be one of, if not the top player, one of the top players and help lead them to success.”While Crawford and Jokiharju are away from the team, forward Artem Anisimov and defenseman Gustav Forsling returned against Nashville after being activated from injured reserve. WASHINGTON (AP) The sight of Evgeni Malkin on the ice brought a smile to many in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ locker room.Even knowing they wouldn’t have him in the lineup for Game 1 of their second-round series against the Washington Capitals on Thursday night Timothy Liljegren Jersey Womens , the back-to-back defending Stanley Cup champions could glean some optimism that the skilled Russian center won’t be out long with his apparent leg injury.”It’s always nice to see a guy like him out there,” winger Bryan Rust said Thursday after an optional morning skate.”He’s a guy who’s obviously really important to our team and brings so much. Just to see him out there and see him getting closer is nice.”Coach Mike Sullivan said Malkin skating ”means he’s that much closer” to playing, even if the 31-year-old was wearing a white no-contact jersey. Malkin traveling with the team to Washington plus the progress he appears to be making could put him in line to return as soon as Game 2 Sunday afternoon.”It’s great for our team, great for Geno that he’s on the ice and skating,” Sullivan said. ”He’s a big part of this team. He’s a difference-maker and not an easy guy to replace.”Pittsburgh beat Philadelphia in Game 6 without Malkin, who was injured in Game 5 on April 20 and hadn’t practiced since. Absent the 2009 Conn Smythe Trophy winner as playoff MVP, the Penguins rely more heavily on superstar Sidney Crosby and fellow centers Derick Brassard, Riley Sheahan and Tom Kuhnhackl.”We have the depth on our roster,” Kuhnhackl said. ”We’ve showed that before. At the end, it doesn’t matter who’s in the lineup and who’s out. Everyone’s capable of playing the right way.”Few in the NHL can play like Malkin, who has three goals and two assists in five playoff games so far. General manager Jim Rutherford acquiring Brassard at the trade deadline certainly helps Pittsburgh’s depth down the middle, but it takes more than one or two players to fill the void without Malkin.”One of the best players in the world Antoine Roussel Jersey Womens , almost 100 points this year,” Brassard said. ”You can’t really replace a guy who scored 40 goals, but I think as a team we can do a better job and are trying to do a better job.”— The Philadelphia Flyers were busy during their four-day break in the schedule.A week after firing Ron Hextall as the club’s general manager, the Flyers named Chuck Fletcher as the man in charge.“At the conclusion of a rigorous review of GM candidates, Chuck Fletcher clearly stood out from the field of talented and capable executives we considered,” Dave Scott, chairman and CEO of Comcast Spectacor and Flyers governor, said in a statement released by the club.Article continues below ...“Chuck has earned success throughout his impressive NHL career and offers the right mix of expertise, business acumen and leadership qualities that the Flyers need today as we work to achieve our ultimate goal, the Stanley Cup championship.”Fletcher spent nine seasons as the GM of the Minnesota Wild and was fired last year. Now, he’s running an 11-12-2 team that heads into Thursday night’s home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets — with a one-game winning streak.Philly ended a two-game losing streak with a 4-2 win at Pittsburgh last Saturday night and look to even the season series with the Jackets, who beat the Flyers 6-3 in Columbus on Oct. 18.The Jackets are coming off a wild — and rather bizarre — 9-6 home loss to the Calgary Flames that was a rather historical game for coach John Tortorella. Not in a good way.“They had 11 scoring chances and they scored nine goals Tim Schaller Jersey Womens ,” Tortorella said after his team’s second straight loss. “I have never been in a game like this.”Sergei Bobrovsky allowed eight goals on 26 shots before being relieved in the third period — Cam Atkinson’s hat trick and extending his points streak to 11 straight games wasted as the Jackets fell to 15-10-2.“We played a really good first period, then for whatever reason sat back and let them play,” Atkinson said. “I don’t think we checked hard. We made it a really easy game for them, and they just capitalized.”With his new team 28th in the NHL allowing 3.52 goals per game, Fletcher is intent on improving the defense.“It’s not the ideal situation. It’s not a normal situation when you have a GM coming in midway through the season,” said D-man Shayne Gostisbehere.“Anything in life, you only get one first impression, so you obviously want to be on your game. Hopefully, we can string some wins.”Anthony Stolarz, the latest in the ever-growing list of goaltenders for this team, got his first win since 2016 against Pittsburgh.Bobrovsky, who fell to 10-9-0 with Tuesday night’s loss Jay Beagle Jersey Womens , has dominated the Flyers, his old team, since leaving going 11-3-1 with a 1.98 GAA and .931 save percentage. He is expected to face Stolarz, a draft pick the Flyers received when they traded Bobrovsky.Calvin Pickard was in goal for the Flyers in the Oct. 18 loss, with Atkinson scoring twice for Columbus. The Jackets blew a 4-1 lead Tuesday night.“I fought all night long as far as, should I take (Bobrovsky out)? all night long, because you could see,” Tortorella said. “But some of them were deflected and there was some crazy … it was just one of those nights. He didn’t look comfortable, but I just decided to see if he could play through it.”“That game was a fluke,” said Jackets captain Nick Foligno. “You’re going to see the real Columbus Blue Jackets tomorrow in the way we’re going to play. We have to.”Atkinson’s streak is the second-longest in club history, trailing only a 13-gamer by Ryan Johansen. Atkinson has 13 goals and six assists during his streak and his hat trick was his club-record sixth of his career.New Flyers assistant coach Rick Wilson officially joined the team on the ice for practice Wednesday. Last year, Switzerland finally topped the charts when the New Jersey Devils made Hischier the first Swiss to go No. 1 in the NHL draft. He is the latest in a suddenly strong line of skilled Swiss forwards emerging as NHL stars.“It starts at a young age,” Hischier said. “There are some good coaches and some really good teams that you can develop (with). … They do a great job to be able to go practice and be able to do school. There’s special schools where you can do both. It’s all part of it.”Hischier is in the spotlight this weekend as he and the Devils return to his junior town of Bern, Switzerland, to practice and play an exhibition game before facing the Edmonton Oilers in Sweden to open the season. He is the poster boy for this generation of Swiss talent that includes Minnesota’s Nino Niederreiter, San Jose’s Timo Meier, Nashville’s Kevin Fiala and Vancouver’s Sven Baertschi. Those five players have already combined to play almost five times the number of games of all the Swiss forwards who came before them.“Swiss hockey’s been growing a lot over the years and we’ve been making steps,” Meier said. “Mark Streit and then Nino Niederreiter got drafted pretty high. That was the age where I was kind of realizing that’s where I want to be and that’s what I’m working for. Just kind of watching these guys work their way into the NHL was pretty exciting and made me want to be there some day.”Streit, who retired last year, understands his place in Switzerland’s hockey pantheon, right there with Aebischer and Gerber as pioneers. He’s proud of how Swiss hockey has finally earned some respect internationally.“Ten, 12, 15 years ago, nobody really talked about Swiss hockey,” Streit said. “Only a few, a handful, had been drafted. I think now, a few guys left a mark Phil Kessel Jersey , so the teams know Swiss guys can play hockey.”Streit is still Switzerland’s standard-bearer in hockey after playing parts of 10 seasons for the Canadiens, Islanders, Flyers and Penguins, and winning the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2017. He was an inspiration to Josi, Weber, Devils defenseman Mirco Mueller and Capitals defensive prospect Jonas Siegenthaler.“Mark Streit was the first player, not goaltender, who made it in the NHL, and he showed a lot of people in Switzerland, including me and a lot of other guys, that it’s possible to make it with a lot of hard work,” said Josi, who is now captain of the Predators. “He kind of opened the doors for us, and since then it’s more and more.”Hischier is opening the door for the next generation of players. Last summer, he skated with younger players and recalled that it felt weird to be admired. He realized he had a duty to help grow the sport back home and serve as a Streit-like inspiration.“There’s more hockey players who’s going to play hockey in Switzerland,” Hischier said this week. “They have a lot of young players. It’s just a good thing for our country.”It might take some time for another transcendent talent like Hischier to come along, but forward Valentin Nussbaumer is a top prospect for the 2019 draft and center Theo Rochette a top prospect in 2020. Not surprisingly, those players followed the path through the Canadian Hockey League junior ranks that worked so well for Niederreiter, Meier and Hischier.Streit notices the trend of more Swiss players playing in the CHL and how programs with combined schooling and hockey training have helped create better habits. But he attributes the breakthrough of so many talented Swiss forwards mostly to a more mature approach in the process of trying to make it in the NHL.“We were lacking a little bit of the perseverance — the hard work and perseverance,” Streit said. “I think now guys have that. They had a lot of skill back in the day Sidney Crosby Jersey , but guys came over and they just couldn’t really make their way through and establish themselves. I think now the guys are willing to work hard and suck it up even in the minors and go play in the CHL.”Niederreiter went to the Western Hockey League, while Meier and Hischier played for the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to get used to North America and the smaller ice surface. Hischier didn’t look out of place at all as a rookie last season, putting up 20 goals and 32 assists and playing all 82 games as an 18-year-old.“I don’t think he gets the credit that he deserves for how good of a season he had and so far this season he looks even better,” Devils linemate Taylor Hall said. “Nico, he’s only played two seasons really in North America, so he’s still getting used to the amount of games we play and how much hockey we really have to go through. That’s why I really think the sky’s the limit for him and the more and more he plays over here on the small ice and just with the pace of play, he’s only going to get better and better.”With Nussbaumer, Rochette and others Swiss players taking their talents to North America at young ages and a pipeline developing, Hischier won’t be the last Swiss likely to make a major impact in the NHL.“We’re such a small country, it’s actually crazy,” Siegenthaler said. “There’s more players going over to North America every year. It’s a good development for us. I think the next few years there should be even more players. I think it’s going pretty good for Switzerland so far.” ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) Philipp Grubauer was 18 and had only been in North America for a year and a half when he walked into the Windsor Spitfires locker room as the latest member of a stacked junior team.”He was really German at that point,” Windsor teammate Taylor Hall said. ”He was very quiet, and he was a goalie, so you just kind of let them do their thing.”Grubauer did his thing all the way to the Ontario Hockey League title and the Memorial Cup. Last year, he did his thing to help Germany qualify for the Pyeongchang Olympics. This spring, he did his thing to earn the starting job for Thursday night’s playoff opener at home against Columbus. He got the nod over 2016 Vezina Trophy winner and longtime No. 1 Braden Holtby. Grubauer doesn’t make a whole lot of noise with his unassuming personality or how he makes saves – he just makes them with such regularity that he looks like a No. 1 NHL goaltender.”I’m really proud of him because he never lost focus,” Germany national team coach Marco Sturm said. ”I know it was a long wait, but he always waited for his chance and he finally has it right now.”Grubauer bided his time through four years in the minors before getting to back up Holtby. It looked like that arrangement was ending after two seasons, but when Vegas general manager George McPhee and goalie coach Dave Prior – who drafted Grubauer in 2010 – didn’t take him in the expansion draft and the Capitals didn’t trade Grubauer Dougie Hamilton Jersey Womens , the 26-year-old was back for a third year as No. 2.”I think we have had Grubauer valued more than the league has had,” Washington general manager Brian MacLellan said. ”We feel he was going to be a good No. 1 goalie. And the rest of the league, in general, say that he hasn’t had time to prove it.”Getting lit up for eight goals in Philadelphia in the Flyers’ home opener was an inauspicious start, but since Oct. 27, no goalie in the league has a better goals-against average than Grubauer’s 2.06 or save percentage better than his .933.When Holtby struggled in February and March, Grubauer took the reins and went 7-3-0 down the stretch.”Grubi was able to take the ball and run with it,” said former NHL goalie Olie Kolzig, who served as Capitals associate goalie coach earlier in Grubauer’s career. ”It just comes from experience. You know you belong. When you’re first coming in as a No. 2, you’re just getting your footing and getting to know the league. But then you play games, you practice with these guys, you build relationships with your teammates, you’re accepted, you have success in games. All of a sudden, you’re getting older, you’re getting more mature, you’re taking in information and then you know.”Grubauer, now 6-foot-1, was always undersized. He was never outworked.”Quiet guy, but always worked hard http://www.officialsharks.com/authentic-adidas-brent-burns-jersey ,” said Nashville defenseman P.K. Subban, who played with Grubauer in Windsor. ”To get to this level, especially in that position, you have to be really dedicated to your craft. He’s obviously done a really good job of working at his game to get better and that’s why he’s playing for one of the top teams in the league now.”Grubauer went 20-1 through the OHL playoffs and Memorial Cup in 2010, and yet Hall said, ”I’d be lying if I said he’d be as good as he was now.””He always played well in the big games,” said Hall, now an MVP candidate with the New Jersey Devils. ”When we needed a save, it was always there.”That reputation followed Grubauer to the American Hockey League, where he stopped 54 of 58 shots at Providence to help steal a second consecutive game for eighth-seeded Hershey in the 2013 Calder Cup playoffs. And it continued to international play, where he stopped 66 of 68 shots in must-win qualifiers to get his country into the Olympics.Last year, when the world championships were in Cologne, Grubauer landed at the airport and went straight to the rink. High-pressure situations don’t bother Grubauer.”It seems like that’s the way he likes it,” Sturm said. ”He’s so athletic but also really calm in the net and he made the big saves when he had to. That’s something a team builds off.”The Capitals have recently built their game up in front of Grubauer, and Kolzig has noticed them playing hard for him like they did for Holtby when first called up.As he goes into his first Stanley Cup playoffs as the starter, Grubauer is trying to stay calm and not think about the stakes. Washington has not advanced past the second round in 20 years.Playing the single-elimination Olympic qualifier best prepared Grubauer for this. He couldn’t lose. And he didn’t.”The mental approach just to be dialed in and pay attention to details,” Grubauer said Wednesday. ”I learned one shot at a time. Don’t look ahead. Don’t look to the next game. Just one shot. One situation.”—

NEW YORK (AP) — Cam Talbot had every reason to celebrate as the buzzer sounded and the Edmonton Oilers cemented their first win of the season.Talbot stopped 23 shots against his former team Columbus Blue Jackets Hats Authentic , Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist to lead the Oilers past the New York Rangers 2-1 Saturday. It was also Talbot’s first win over the Rangers, the team he helped reach the Stanley Cup Finals in 2014 as a backup to Henrik Lundqvist. Talbot was all smiles as the Oilers prepared to fly home after their season-opener in Sweden and two weeks overall on the road.“This is right up there with the first win of my career,” said the 31-year-old goaltender, who spent two seasons with the Rangers before they traded him to the Oilers before the 2015-16 season. “I hadn’t gotten the best of them yet so I was definitely looking forward to that and happy to get this out of the way.”McDavid scored his second of the season at 6:23 of the third period, redirecting the puck past goalie Henrik Lundqvist on the power play with Rangers forward Vladislav Namesnikov in the penalty box for holding. Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had assists. The Oilers lost their season opener 5-2 against the New Jersey Devils in Sweden before dropping their next game 4-1 on Thursday at Boston. The 21-year-old McDavid, who has led the league in points each of the past two seasons, has points on all five Oilers goals in three games this season. When offense isn’t there, you need to check. I thought we did a great job finally getting a win in a tough building,” McDavid said. “It wasn’t the prettiest way to win a game but we needed to win a game.”Mika Zibanejad opened the scoring for the Rangers with 7:11 to go in the first period. The fleet Zibanejad took a pass from defenseman Marc Staal and put the puck past the former Talbot. Defenseman Brendan Smith also assisted on Zibanejad’s first goal this season.Zibanejad also twice rang shots off posts behind Talbot, who also denied the forward in the waning seconds..“We came out really well in the first 10 minutes and kind of slowed down a little bit after that,” Zibanejad said. “I thought we had plenty of chances to put this one away.”Nugent-Hopkins tied it with 5:43 left, tapping a rebound past Lundqvist for his first this season. The home team was coming off its first win www.officialstarsproonline.com , a 3-2 overtime victory over San Jose on Thursday after opening the season with three losses under new coach David Quinn.Lundqvist made 25 saves and the Rangers defense was steady for the most part. But timely scoring has emerged as a problem area as New York has started the season with four losses in five games.Quinn — who made the leap from Boston University to the NHL when he replaced Alain Vigneault after last season — said he is seeking a fiercer approach when his squad has the puck.“We have to have more tenacity offensively,” Quinn said. “And we have to shoot more. Shooting creates opportunities.”The Rangers had won each of their last five games against the Oilers, dating back to Dec. 15, 2015.Staal, 31, the second-most senior player on the Rangers’ roster after Lundqvist, said he remained confident despite the result and was heartened by the team’s work ethic.“I liked the start of our game. WINNIPEG Dmitry Kulikov Jersey , Manitoba (AP) — Edmonton coach Todd McLennan made no apology for his bias toward Oilers star Connor McDavid.McLennan only had to watch McDavid score twice and add two assists as the Oilers overcame a three-goal deficit to beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-4 Tuesday night on Darnell Nurse’s goal 1:25 into overtime.“He’s our captain. He’s our leader,” McLellan said of McDavid. “He’s, in my opinion, the best player on earth right now and he decided that he was going to will his team to a win.”McDavid set an NHL record by scoring or assisting on his team’s first nine goals to start a season, breaking Adam Oates’ record of seven with Detroit in 1986-87. McDavid has four goals and five assists in four games.“You know what? It’s whatever. I’m not overly proud of it,” McDavid said about the record. “I don’t think it’s a stat we should be proud of, either.“It is what it is, but we found a way to get a goal there at the end so we don’t ever have to talk about it again.”Ty Rattie ignited the comeback when he scored 18 seconds into the third period. McDavid got his second power-play goal of the game at 2:28 to trim Winnipeg’s lead to 4-3.Jesse Puljujarvi tied it at 13:39 when a shot by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins hit the Finnish forward’s stick and went past goalie Connor Hellebuyck. Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl each had two assists.Jets forward Adam Lowry had two goals during a three-minute span in the first period. Mark Scheifele and defenseman Ben Chiarot also scored.“I just think we shot ourselves in the foot,” Lowry said. “We started to make plays at the blue line and fed into their transition game. We were on our heels in the third.“Credit to them, they didn’t quit. They have a dynamic top line and it showed tonight.”Nurse scored the winner unassisted when he got around Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers and beat Hellebuyck.“Going into the third we could have gone two different ways, and 18 seconds in his line makes a huge play,” Nurse said about McDavid.“When you have a leader like that, everyone feeds off that. For him to be able to set the tone every single game Youth Dustin Byfuglien Jersey , it’s incredible.”Hellebuyck made 30 saves for the Jets (3-2-1).Cam Talbot, playing his 200th game with the Oilers (2-2-0), stopped 29 shots.Winnipeg opened a 3-1 lead in the first period.Lowry got his first goal when he wasn’t challenged in front and sent the puck past Talbot at 4:51. Lowry then got his own rebound and his shot went under a sprawling Talbot at 7:47 to make it 2-0.McDavid connected on the power play when he cut smoothly to the front of the net and flipped a backhand past Hellebuyck at 12:49.But only 22 seconds later, Chiarot restored his team’s two-goal lead on a point shot with Patrik Laine providing the screen in front.Continuing a power play to start the second, Scheifele fired in his goal off the rebound of Laine’s one-timer to make it 4-1 at 1:02.“Yeah, 4-1 should be game over,” Jets captain Blake Wheeler said. “Our line went out, gave up one early on and gave them momentum. You’re fighting an uphill battle from there.”Winnipeg played without injured defenseman Dustin Byfuglien (lower body) for the second straight game.UP NEXTOilers: Play their home opener Thursday against Boston to begin a four-game homestand.Jets: Continue a six-game homestand, their longest of the season, Thursday against Vancouver. When the Washington Capitals faced the New York Islanders in the playoffs five years in a row in the 1980s, players knew everything. They knew where Mike Bossy loved to shoot from, that Bob Nystrom was going to run them over and that they’d better watch out for Denis Potvin in the neutral zone.”We became so used to one another we were expected to play the Islanders in the playoffs,” former Capitals winger Craig Laughlin said. ”At some point http://www.jetsshoppro.com/authentic-jacob-trouba-jersey , we always knew we were going to play them.”It’s starting to feel that way now for the Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins, who are meeting in the second round of the playoffs for the third consecutive year. Two teams playing each other over and over again in the postseason is a common theme in NHL history, especially when 16 of the 21 teams faced off in a divisional format similar to what has been in place since 2014 and is responsible for Capitals-Penguins III.The Capitals faced the New York Rangers from 2011-13 and the Chicago Blackhawks played the Vancouver Canucks from 2009-11. Hockey has changed plenty since the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens played series seven years in a row from 1984-90, but all that familiarity still breeds a whole lot of contempt.”For the players, it’s more difficult,” said former Edmonton defenseman Kevin Lowe, whose Oilers faced Winnipeg three playoffs in a row from 1983-85. ”The body checks are heavier, the cross-checks are harder, the slashes behind the play are harder.”Lowe doesn’t think there are any advantages to players seeing the same opponent over and over again in the playoffs. Even on a Stanley Cup-champion team in Edmonton, there was always pressure to beat the Jets because they had done it in previous years.Seeing the Penguins beat the Capitals on the way to the Cup the past two years, Lowe believes the stronger motivation belongs to Washington.”They’ve made their life miserable, so that amps them up more,” Lowe said. ”There’s no real advantage to the team that’s winning those years because you know every year’s different and you thought Josh Morrissey Jersey , `Oh, we can beat these guys because we beat them before.’ It’s a new set of circumstances every time you play.”Former Philadelphia defenseman Brad Marsh recalled similar circumstances when the Flyers faced the Rangers in the playoffs in the ’80s. New York was often dozens of points back in the standings and yet won their series sometimes.Players also changed teams less frequently back then, so the series felt like the continuation of a never-ending rivalry that began each fall in the preseason and was renewed in the playoffs.”You certainly develop a hate for the team a little quicker because you’ve played them so many times in the regular season leading into the playoffs, and if you play them year after year, it certainly does give you extra motivation not to lose to them again,” Marsh said. ”You did know how each player played or what their strengths or weaknesses were.”By now, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin said he and his teammates know ”pretty much everything” about the Penguins, just like they did about the Rangers a few years ago. Coach Barry Trotz joked there was ”less scouting, shorter days” before acknowledging, ”We’ll be looking for those little edges you can get when you start playing teams multiple times.”Even back in Laughlin’s day, the scouting reports – printed out on paper – were extensive. When Marsh faced the Rangers, he knew how to defend certain players in front of the net and what to expect from an opponent’s stars.Sometimes that’s a no brainer. The Capitals have to watch out for Sidney Crosby, the Penguins for Ovechkin and the 1980s Jets for Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier.Rick Tocchet http://www.jetsshoppro.com/authentic-kyle-connor-jersey , who played with Marsh on the Flyers in the ’80s and was an assistant coach with Pittsburgh in 2016 and 2017, thinks repeatedly facing the same team brings out different aspects in players.”If you were a skill guy, you’d probably go out of your way to hit a guy,” Tocchet said. ”If you really were an aggressive-type player, you’d try to make sure you’d continue to be aggressive and be willing to hit their best players. When you play a team so many times you’re willing to go out of your comfort zone to win those games.”Having an elite team like the Islanders and Oilers dynasties of the ’80s carried with it some pressure, but beating the same opponent repeatedly in the playoffs had one benefit.”Knowing that there would be an element of doubt in there,” Lowe said. ”If you get them down in a series and things are looking bleak where that element of doubt might creep in quicker for the team that hasn’t won. It takes a while before you can actually get an opponent to that position.”The mental battle starts well before Game 1. Speaking from experience, Laughlin thought he and the Capitals could always go toe-to-toe with the Islanders. He figures that’s the only way to approach this kind of situation.”You need that feeling that this is a new year, it’s a new season, it’s a new series and why can’t we win?” Laughlin said. ”It is belief that you have a better team and a belief that you are playing better than them at the moment. I think that’s the only thing you can sort of feed off of is you have more belief in your game the way you’re playing now.”—

DENVER (AP) Gabriel Landeskog sat at his locker stall http://www.officialflames.com/authentic-adidas-jaromir-jagr-jersey , his skates still laced and most of his gear still on.The only thing missing was his jersey, which was given to a lucky fan.Quick, get the captain a new one – the Colorado Avalanche are going to need it where they’re going.Nathan MacKinnon scored his first goal in 10 games, Jonathan Bernier stopped 32 shots and the Avalanche earned the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with a 5-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night.Defensemen Samuel Girard and Tyson Barrie scored, while Landeskog and Matt Nieto added empty-netters for the Avalanche, who won the West’s second wild card and head to the postseason for the first time since 2013-14. They will face top-seeded Nashville in the opening round a season after recording a league-low 48 points.”It’s an unbelievable accomplishment,” MacKinnon said. ”It’s got to be one of the best accomplishments in modern sports history.”Landeskog already has a start on his playoff beard.Game No. 82 for these two boiled down to a winner-take-all scenario. Although, there was one caveat – the Avalanche couldn’t allow the game to go to overtime since the Blues held the tiebreaker. St. Louis pulled out all the stops late in the third: Taking out goalie Jake Allen with around 4:35 remaining. Landeskog and Nieto sealed the win with empty-net tallies that sent the raucous crowd into full celebration mode.”Credit to Colorado they’ve improved immensely over the last couple of years,” Allen said. ”They played well again tonight.”Colorado finished with 95 points to become first NHL team to post a 40-point gain over an 82-game season since the Pittsburgh Penguins jumped 47 from 2005-06 (58) to 2006-07 (105).Next up, rest. That’s Landeskog’s plan anyway – lay on the couch with his dog and watch the Masters on Sunday. Then, get ready for Nashville.”If we play the way we played tonight, we have a good chance,” Bernier said.Jaden Schwartz had a power-play goal and Brayden Schenn scored with 38.4 seconds remaining for the Blues Johnny Gaudreau Jersey Kids , who saw their playoff appearance streak halted at six straight seasons. The Blues arrived in town late following a 4-1 win in Chicago on Friday night. They sent Allen to the Mile High City early so he would be better rested for the big game. Allen made one diving save after another to keep things close. He even played through a tweaked hamstring he suffered in the game.”Any other game I probably would have went out but this a game we needed to win,” Allen said.St. Louis was dealt a blow midway through the first period when leading goal-scorer Vladimir Tarasenko left with an upper-body injury. He didn’t return.”He was very disappointed,” Blues coach Mike Yeo said.Leading 2-1 late in the third, MacKinnon beat Allen with a shot over the goaltender’s shoulder. MacKinnon had been held without a goal since March 18 when he had two against Detroit. He finished with 97 points – the most by an Avalanche player since Joe Sakic had 100 in 2006-07.Barrie gave Colorado a 2-0 lead in the second on a goal from the blue line that led to a challenge by St. Louis, which felt the puck left the zone. The officials took a long look before ruling it a good goal and determined ”there were no definitive replays which showed that the puck left the attacking zone,” according to NHL situation room.”I’m not going to blame the season on a bad call,” Yeo said.Girard scored his first goal since Feb. 22 on a slap shot through traffic with 46 seconds left in the first period to give the Avs a 1-0 advantage. He was acquired by Colorado from Nashville in the three-team deal that sent Matt Duchene to Ottawa in November. The last time two teams met in their final game of the season while contending for the last available playoff spot in the conference was 2010. The Avs were 0-3-1 against the Predators this season.— The Edmonton Oilers and St. Louis Blues made coaching changes roughly 12 hours apart last month.Only one team has responded well to a new voice. The Oilers go for their seventh straight home win when they meet the Blues on Tuesday night.Article continues below ...Edmonton dismissed Todd McLellan on Nov. 20 Mark Giordano Jersey , less than a day after St. Louis did likewise with Mike Yeo. With Ken Hitchcock behind the bench, the Oilers have gone 9-3-2 and are unbeaten at Rogers Place.Perhaps the biggest reason for the that home success is in net. Mikko Koskinen, who started the season backing up Cam Talbot, is 7-0-0 with three shutouts and has turned away 223 of 230 shots for a .970 save percentage at home. But the 30-year-old Finn lost for the third time in his last four road starts following a 4-2 defeat to the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday. The Edmonton matched a season high by allowing three power-play goals.“It felt like we’ve been trending up in that direction for a while and we had a bit of a setback tonight, but we’ll get back on it,” center Kyle Brodziak said. The Oilers are 10-4-1 in northern Alberta going into a five-game homestand that includes a tough matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning before the league’s Christmas break.“Go home, get a little confidence and play a good game,” defenseman Matt Benning said Sunday about facing the Blues. After St. Louis (12-15-4) was blanked for the third time in a four-game stretch last month, Craig Berube was tapped to replace Yeo, but the team continues to sputter. The Blues gave up four first-period goals in a 7-2 loss to the Calgary Flames on Sunday.“We were terrible in the first period. Every player. Terrible. … Couldn’t make a play. Couldn’t check. No composure. No team play,” Berube said after the team dropped to 5-6-1 under his leadership. The Blues are 13th in the Western Conference as they start a three-game Western Canadian trip prior to the league break. St. Louis has been outscored 16-9 in five road games under Berube, but he’s expecting more on both ends of the ice regardless of where the team is playing.“Guys got to look in the mirror. It’s up to each individual to prepare himself to play the game the proper way. You’re in the NHL. That’s your job,” he said.Tuesday’s contest also marks the return of Blues winger Pat Maroon to Edmonton Youth Matthew Tkachuk Jersey , where he enjoyed his greatest success. In 2016-17, Maroon collected a career-high 27 goals, including five game-winners.After posting career bests in assists (26) and points (43) with the Oilers and New Jersey Devils last season, Maroon joined his hometown team but he’s missed time with an upper-body injury and has just one goal and seven assists in 25 games.Though he said after Sunday’s loss that there are no answers anymore for why the team is playing so poorly, Maroon added that the team is not giving up.“We come in and put our pads on every night and we go out there and try to play our best every night,” he said. The Oilers needed to a shootout to beat the Blues, 3-2, on Dec. 5. Edmonton is looking for its fourth win in five games on home ice versus St. Louis.Oilers captain Connor McDavid’s next assist will be the 200th of his career. A two-time scoring champion at just 21, McDavid has six goals and 10 helpers in a nine-game points streak.

NASHVILLE Authentic Baker Mayfield Jersey , Tenn. (AP) Predators goalie Pekka Rinne has years of postseason experience, including a couple Game 7s and a Stanley Cup Final.Connor Hellebuyck has the Winnipeg Jets on the verge of their first Western Conference final in his first playoff appearance, and the best comparison he can make to the looming Game 7 in Nashville is playing for Hockey East championships back in college.”I have yet to be scored on in one, so I like those odds,” Hellebuyck said. ”This has nothing to do with that. This is whole new level and you’ve just got to get into the game as much as you can.”Nobody has reflected the roller-coaster ride of this thrilling Western Conference semifinal between the NHL’s top two teams in the regular season than their Vezina Trophy finalists. Rinne has been pulled from not one but two games – both on his own ice – before staving off elimination in Game 6 with his second shutout this postseason.”When you think about Game 7, as a team, as an individual, you’re just going to give it all and do your best and do it as a team and trust your teammates,” Rinne said Wednesday. ”I think that’s the best formula and focus on your own team.”Hellebuyck’s stats include a 2-1 record in Nashville in this series, which ends Thursday night (8 p.m. ET, NBCSN) in the only Game 7 of the second round this postseason. Hellebuyck gave up three goals in a 4-0 home loss Monday night , turning this into a winner-take-all game for the right to play Vegas in the conference final.”We know it’s all on the line, and nothing in the past is going to bother us,” Hellebuyck said. ”We can’t let it. This is going to be the most fun game we’re going to play and I think a lot of us are going to enjoy ourselves.”RESTED RINNEA Justin Timberlake concert Wednesday night pushed Game 7 to Thursday night, giving the 35-year-old Rinne two days of rest. During the regular season, the Predators goalie went 11-3 with a 1.99 goals-against average and .936 save percentage during the season when he got two days to rest between games. ”It’s nice to have that extra day Greg Joseph Jersey Elite ,” Rinne said.EDGE IN EXPERIENCEThe eventual Stanley Cup champion in each of the past five seasons has won a Game 7 along the way. This is the Predators’ third Game 7. The Jets will become the 29th active NHL franchise to play a Game 7 on Thursday night. Nashville is among both the 14 teams to win their first Game 7 and the 10 who did that on the road, beating Anaheim in 2016 to clinch a first-round series.Nashville coach Peter Laviolette, 5-2 in Game 7s, is one of only four NHL coaches to win a Game 7 in each of four different playoff rounds (Pat Burns, Mike Keenan and John Tortorella). He also has 20 Predators who have at least one Game 7 on their resume. Jets coach Paul Maurice is 2-0 himself, though only eight of his Jets have played in a Game 7.RAZOR-THIN SERIESNashville finished only three points (117) ahead of Winnipeg (114) for the Presidents’ Trophy, and this series has been about as close as possible. The Jets have more goals (22-18), while Nashville has more shots on goal (217-213). But even-strength shot attempts are 338 apiece with each team blocking 97 shots. The Predators have only three more hits (144-141).TOP LINE MATTERSNashville’s JOFA line of Ryan Johansen, Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson combined for eight points in keeping the Predators alive with a 4-0 win in Game 6. Winnipeg’s top line of Blake Wheeler, Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele had eight points in Game 5.”It’s the final game for one team,” Jets coach Paul Maurice said. ”So, there’s lot of emotion, lots of excitement. But there’s definitely a calmness to it. There’s a finality coming. It brings out the best I think.”THE DREAM GAME”Ever since I started playing hockey, I was five years old, you put yourself in that position where you play a Game 7 in the playoffs,” Jets forward Mathieu Perrault said. ”This is what we play for. So this should be the most fun we’ve had all year.”— BOSTON (AP) The Boston Bruins appear to be quite ready for the playoffs. And the Tampa Bay Lightning are slumping at the wrong time of the season. The top two teams in the Eastern Conference slugged it out Thursday night and Boston prevailed http://www.clevelandbrownsteamonline.com/greg-joseph-jersey , knocking Tampa Bay out of first place for the first time since October with a 4-2 win on Thursday night.”This definitely had a playoff feel to it,” said Brand Marchand, whose empty-net goal with 56 seconds left sealed it for the Bruins, who took over first place in the conference with less than two weeks remaining in the regular season.”Obviously we all know how big it was for the standings and what it meant for both teams. So it was great to see the guys react the way they did and have the game we did.”Patrice Bergeron had a goal and two assists, Tim Schaller and David Pastrnak scored goals 32 seconds apart in the final minute of the first period and Tuukka Rask made 26 saves for the Bruins, who have 107 points and lead Tampa Bay by a point.Boston has six games remaining in the regular season to five for Tampa Bay.For the first time since Oct. 18, a team other than the Lightning leads the Eastern Conference.”I think it means that we’ve been playing pretty good hockey the last couple of months,” said Rask, who also helped set the emotional tone by unloading a flurry of punches on Tampa Bay’s Cory Conacher during a scrum in the second. It was one of many times in the game that postseason implications were apparent, including a rare fight for Pastrnak in the third period and several more battles before the officials had to separate both sides one final time – after the third-period buzzer.”There was a ton of passion,” Tampa Bay’s Alex Killorn said. ”There was a lot of hits and a lot of scrums after the whistle. It seems like it could potentially be a playoff matchup. It definitely had a playoff atmosphere tonight.”J.T. Miller scored a power-play goal for Tampa Bay in the second and Victor Hedman added a goal in the third. Andrei Vasilevskiy finished with 26 saves for the Lightning, who have lost three straight and are 0-3 against the Bruins this season.”Playing in here is always difficult,” Killorn said. ”The second and third period, I think we did a pretty good job. We created a lot more opportunities for ourselves.”Killorn had an apparent goal waved off in the third when a teammate was in the crease with Boston leading 2-1. A few minutes later, Torey Krug passed to Bergeron at the side of the net for a goal to put Boston up 3-1 at 11:59 of the third. The Lightning cut it to 3-2 when Hedman beat Rask through his legs with 6:06 remaining in the third, but Marchand’s empty-netter sealed it and Boston took over the top spot in the division and conference.”It was a big win for us. Finally we jumped them after a whole season chasing them Authentic Greg Joseph Jersey ,” Pastrnak said. The Bruins outshot the Lightning 17-6 in the first period and took a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the final minute.Schaller put Boston up 1-0 after stealing the puck from Ryan McDonagh just inside the blue line and started a 2-on-1 break with Tommy Wingels, who got off a shot as Schaller crashed the net and poked in the rebound.Killorn took an interference penalty with 31 seconds remaining and Pastrnak scored 5 seconds into the penalty, putting the Bruins up 2-0 with 26 seconds left in the period. The game paused for a few minutes with 8:44 left in the second after Rask took a few shots at Conacher when he was slow to get up after getting tangled with Brandon Carlo in the crease.Rask landed several punches with his glove before players from both teams jumped in and were eventually separated.Vasilevskiy skated toward the other end, but was cut off at the blue line by referee Francois St. Laurent, who kept the Tampa Bay goalie from entering the fray. Boston fans roared their approval by shouting ”Tuuuuuuuuk!” throughout the altercation.Later in the second, it was Pastrnak stepping in after a hit on Bergeron and squaring off with Tampa Bay’s Dan Girardi. Pastrnak said it was his first fight and his inexperience showed when Girardi quickly took him down, but the Bruins appreciated his effort.”I don’t think I’ve fought ever – like ever,” he said. ”I’m a pretty calm-down guy.”NOTES: Krug finished with two assists. Ray Lewis arrived in Baltimore shortly after the transplanted Cleveland Browns http://www.ravensauthorizedshops.com/authentic-marshal-yanda-jersey , who were attempting to start anew in a city that had gone 12 years without an NFL team.Selected 26th overall in the 1996 draft after establishing himself as a star at the University of Miami, Lewis had no idea what he was getting into."We had no team. We had no logo. We had nothing," Lewis recalled. "There was nothing to really respect."Over the next 17 years, the Baltimore Ravens reached the postseason nine times, won two Super Bowls and built a hard-hitting and relentless defense in the image of Lewis, their unquestioned leader.A 13-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Lewis helped make the Ravens far better than respectable while establishing himself as one of the best linebackers to play the game. His unparalleled play and unmatched leadership made him an obvious first-ballot entrant into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Lewis received the news last February, and still gets chills thinking about it."That knock on the door was like the first time I got my first jersey," Lewis said. "It was like when you ran home and you wanted to put on your pads. You weren't playing no game, you just wanted to put on your pads because you were part of an elite team. You made it. So, it's almost like the same feeling."He will be enshrined Saturday, joining offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden as the second Ravens star to have a bust in Canton, Ohio."It's pretty clear Ray was the heart and soul of the Ravens for 17 years. If anyone is deserving of this honor, it's Ray Lewis," Ogden said. "He is a guy we all looked to — both on offense and defense — to lead our team."There are many great linebackers in the Hall of Fame. Few of them combined skill and authority the way Lewis did. After delivering an emotional speech before the game , Lewis would continue to push his teammates in the huddle before taking ownership of the middle of the field, looking to punish anyone in a different jersey."One of a kind. I think he's the best that ever played," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "It's not just the on-field play; it's the whole package."Harbaugh acknowledged he carries the bias that comes with coaching Lewis for the final five years of his NFL career. Others, however, back the assertion."He's the best I've seen," said Mike Singletary, a Hall of Fame linebacker and former assistant coach in Baltimore. "If people thought I was good, I know that Ray was better."It's hard to determine Lewis' most notable quality. His ferocity on the field? His teaching and leadership skills? Or was it his relentless drive to win?Hall of Fame defensive back Rod Woodson, a teammate of Lewis' on the 2000 Super Bowl team, chooses all of the above."What needs to be said about a guy who was, by far, the best leader I witnessed in my 17 years of play? His singular focus to be the best player and teammate he could be what separates him from other Hall of Famers," Woodson said."His play was off the charts. He was a virtual tackling machine — and a playmaker. He caused fumbles, recovered fumbles, interceptions, tipped passes. He did it all for longer than anyone who played his spot in the middle."The 6-foot-1, 245-pound Lewis spent countless hours in the weight room and took an equal amount of pride in mastering the mental aspect of the game. He derived great pleasure from matching wits with great quarterbacks, most notably Peyton Manning and Tom Brady."Those two guys were chess players," Lewis said. "The game was one thing, but it was the preparation before the game that was a totally different thought process. And then, every time we walked off the field, we gave each other mad respect."Lewis wasn't perfect. He was arrested and charged with two counts of murder in Atlanta in 2000. Those charges were dropped, and he pleaded to obstruction of justice, a misdemeanor. But questions about his role in the crime were an underlying theme before Baltimore faced the New York Giants one year later in the Super Bowl, a game which the Ravens won 34-7 and Lewis was voted MVP."Ray Lewis is going to be Ray Lewis. He's not going to apologize for who he is," Harbaugh said. "But whenever he made a mistake Cheap Maurice Canady Jersey , he was the first one to acknowledge it."In his first season in Baltimore, the Ravens finished 4-12. In his final season, which he dubbed "my last ride" entering the playoffs, Baltimore beat San Francisco 34-31 in the Super Bowl.It was a whirlwind career filled with ups and downs, and Lewis promises that kind of speech at his enshrinement."This moment for me is one you dream about your entire life," he said. "Savor that moment. You don't have to run a 40, you don't have to do bench presses, you ain't got to do none of that. All you have to do is deliver something I think a lot of people want to hear."And so, whether it becomes my greatest (speech) or not, I'll tell you this: it will have people and myself on a roller coaster that we will never forget."Pushing to make the Ravens roster, CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste believes that he can be “one of the best in the league” Coming into the 2014 NFL Draft, Stanley Jean-Baptiste was thought to be one of the best cornerback prospects. At Nebraska, Jean-Baptiste finished with 74 tackles, seven interceptions, 22 pass deflections and one sack. For his play during his senior season, he was named second-team All-Big Ten, finishing with 41 tackles (three for a loss), one sack and four interceptions with one returned for a touchdown. Jean-Baptiste’s athleticism showed up during the 2014 NFL combine with a 41.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot and six-inch broad jump. He stood at 6’3, 218 lbs. and his size was seen as a top-notch asset at the position. He impressed the New Orleans Saints enough to be selected in the second round with the 58th pick. Though everything seemed to be falling into place for the then 24-year old, he played in just four games during his rookie season, mostly on special teams. It was thought that his situation would improve during his next year with the Saints. That would not be the case. Things fell completely apart for Jean-Baptiste on September 3, 2015 in a 38-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers in New Orleans’ final preseason game. He was constantly beaten on plays and was chewed out by head coach Sean Payton for his play on the sideline. In just his second season in the NFL, Jean-Baptiste was cut from the Saints.“Going into New Orleans, I was a rookie [and] I didn’t really know much,” Jean-Baptiste said of learning from his time with the Saints. “I just tried to control things that I couldn’t control. But at the same time, I learned from my mistakes.”He would soon be picked up by the Detroit Lions on September 6, 2015, signing to their practice squad. However, he was released on December 15. Then, he was signed to the Seattle Seahawks practice squad on December 17. He would then be picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs on May 9, 2017, before being waived on June 15. The Jacksonville Jaguars signed him on July 25 of the same year, then waived and placed on the practice squad on September 2. By September 12, Jean-Baptiste would be released by his fifth NFL team.Jean-Baptiste sat around for a few weeks with no team. His fortunes would finally change on October 3, 2017 when the Ravens gave him a shot on their practice squad. He would finally be called up to the active roster on December 5, making one tackle on the year. This season, Jean-Baptiste has a new outlook on his career. “I would just tell myself to just control what I can control, on and off the field,” Jean-Baptiste said. “Everything will fall into place when it needs to.”This is Jean-Baptiste’s first training camp with the Ravens, and he’s especially excelled this preseason. The 28-year old has two interceptions and has received more opportunities with the absence of Maurice Canady and the extra preseason game. Veterans have also needed a breather, giving Jean-Baptiste more on-field time.“Other training camps were going well http://www.ravenscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-john-brown-jersey , just like how it is right now,” Jean-Baptiste said. “It’s just [there’s] more opportunities with the Ravens. At the same time, it’s just I’m getting more playing time. We have more vets on this side of the ball – the defensive side of the ball – [so] it’s a lot of rest time for them. So, that means I get on the field more.”With Jimmy Smith’s pending four-game suspension, it is assumed that Jean-Baptiste will make Baltimore’s 53-man roster. During Smith’s hiatus, he feels that he can step up to make Baltimore’s roster to give them extra depth at corner.“I don’t know what they’re going to do with Jimmy’s suspension,” Jean-Baptiste said of Baltimore’s roster decision. “The opportunity with me is going to come, as I said, on the field – finishing strong for this last preseason game and hopefully they make a decision upstairs.”In his second season with the Ravens, Jean-Baptiste has felt more comfortable in his role. The defensive-minded franchise has felt like home to him.“Yeah, I mean, I’m pretty comfortable wherever I go,” Jean-Baptiste said. “But [the] Ravens 鈥?Yes, like you said, it feels more at home. It’s more like a family over here.”Not only has he continued to grow on the field with Baltimore, but he has grown in the film room. The defensive scheme of the Ravens seems to fit him better and play more to his strengths, but regardless of what the situation is schematically, he believes that he is a better player overall.“Yes, I think I’m a better player It’s more as in - not on the field, but just knowing how everything goes, just knowing how the system is and knowing how to control what I can control,” said Jean-Baptiste of his situation with Baltimore. He hopes to make the most out of each preseason game, especially since his spot is not guaranteed. Jean-Baptiste is competing against Darious Williams for a potential roster spot and if he does make the team, he is fighting with 2018 fourth round pick Anthony Averett for playing time. “Every game is important – even if it’s preseason. Going out there every day, putting out good film for all the 31 teams to see – that’s important. You can’t go out there and put out bad film, because that’s the last thing they’re going to think about you.”Just because he hasn’t stuck with a team long term doesn’t mean that Jean-Baptiste has no confidence in himself. That confidence has been on full display and has helped guide him in the game that he loves so much.“The confidence is already there,” Jean-Baptiste said. “To bounce back - it’s just football. You’re doing something you love. It won’t go away like that – that easy.”If he gets to take on the team that drafted him, Jean-Baptiste would like to show New Orleans what they are missing out on. Luckily for him, he will have the opportunity to show the Saints that they made a mistake in cutting him. Baltimore takes on New Orleans in Week 7 on October 21. “The chip [on my shoulder] is always there,” said Jean-Baptiste. “At the same time, whatever ball club I’m playing for, I’m going to give them my all. But if I do play against a team that cut me – yes, it’s going to be a little personal.”When given the chance, Jean-Baptiste believes highly in his abilities. Those abilities in the past made him a second round pick, but he believes that his ceiling is much higher than just being a former second rounder. “I think I can be one of the best in the league,” Jean-Baptiste states bluntly. “When I get my opportunity, I’m going to show it. But at the same time, until then I’m just going to keep working on my craft and just keep fighting for my way on the field.”

Monday Morning Optimist: Panthers’ defense picked a bad day to have a bad day The Panthers defense yesterday was as much the story of their loss to the Falcons as it was the story of their victory over the Cowboys a week ago. Tevin Coleman became the first back in 22 games to rush for over 100 yards against Carolina. Matt Ryan did his best Cam Newton impression to the tune of 2 touchdowns. Luke Kuechly missed a tackle that allowed Tevin Coleman to rush for 27 yards down the Panthers’ sideline Christian McCaffrey Jersey , y’all. That isn’t going to happen every day.The optimistic takeaway from yesterday isn’t that the Panthers held Julio Jones to under 300 yards receiving, its that the Falcons won because the Panthers defense had a one in a million fluke game. Its that the offense is still struggling to figure out how to use its best players — or to best use its players — and yet they were still a few drive-stalling drops away from taking control of that game.Take a step back and look at the coverage leading up to Sunday. We couldn’t stop talking about the injuries to the Panthers offense. Greg Olsen is missing and freshman offensive coordinator Norv Turner was tasked with making a game plan around an offensive line whose healthy members couldn’t get jobs as stunt doubles if Keanu Reeves decided to remake the Replacements. We aren’t talking about that today because they did a serviceable job. That is phenomenal.Newton threw the ball from clean pockets a few more times (read: even once) than I expected. Christian McCaffrey and CJ Anderson had room to run sometimes. The problem was that the same could be said for Ryan and the Falcons. It would have been nice if the Panthers had recorded even a single sack. The defense seemed a step behind the Falcons on every play that the Falcons didn’t run perfectly. The Falcons ran too many plays perfectly. It was not a combination the Panthers were able to beat — except that they were. Newton threw one of the most accurate passes I’ve seen in his career on a Hail Mary attempt that would have seen most passers range between bouncing the ball short of the end zone and sending it way out of bounds. Newton’s ball bounced off of DJ Moore’s arm in the middle of three defenders. If you thoughtMoore caught that ball at first then you are not alone. The only time the offense was truly frustrating was when they spent the opening half racking up false start penalties. I’m looking at you, Torrey Smith. Between those penalties and the drops by your teammates, Newton was once again let down by his team. Punch one more game like that and he gets a free, disappointing lunch at Texas Roadhouse. The trick to remember is that Smith is a veteran. He’ll get that under control. The Panthers don’t come nearly as close in their comeback without a few of his catches. Jarius Wright Authentic Donte Jackson Jersey , Anderson, and Ian Thomas share as much blame as he does. The Panthers were able to beat the Falcons yesterday, they just didn’t. The combination of things it took the Falcons to pull off that victory is a rare thing and that’s great news for the Panthers in a division where the Bucs may actually be a team again. The Falcons may have won, but they didn’t look like they could have played much better. The Panthers have obvious leaps and bounds they can take.Division games are always crazy and this one took place in week 2. Teams hardly know who they are at this point. All we know is that the Panthers have displayed, at times Youth DJ Moore Jersey , a dominant defense and a competent offense. Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl with only half of that combination. Joe Flacco did too. Do any of you really think Newton is in such a lowly tier as either of those guys? Of course you don’t. Newton’s is averaging more than 65% completions this year. I hear that’s elite. The Panthers have all of the pieces to play meaningful football through January and guys besides that are busy getting healthy to shore up the obvious weaknesses. We know they can play defense. We know Cam Newton is great at more than throwing passes for his receivers to drop. The start of a season is always weird as injuries and realities define the tension between what a team wants to do and what it is capable of doing. For now, the recipe for success in the Carolinas seems pretty simple. Newton needs to keep being himself. Kuechly needs to learn how to tackle. DJ Moore needs to continue his progression from week to week. The Bengals will teach us a lot about the reality of this team and the bye week will come just in time for the Panthers to address that before the rest of the season. The Steelers have played the entire season without their franchise-tagged offensive spark. They also just played their best game in what could be the last one without him.The Steelers dominated the Panthers 52-21, in a performance that couldn’t have been better with any player added to the mix.Ben Roethlisberger had a flawless night, mathematically and figuratively. He was 22-of-25 for 328 yards and five touchdowns, for a perfect 158.3 passer rating. He also got to watch the last 11 minutes tucked safely on the sidelines http://www.panthersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-taylor-moton-jersey , as backup Joshua Dobbs enjoyed the longest mop-up duty ever.Meanwhile, their defense kept pressure on Cam Newton throughout the night, sacking him five times (he had only been sacked 12 times this season) and picking him off once (with Vince Williams returning it for a touchdown). It was an eye-opener for a team which had won three straight, triggered by coming back from a 17-point deficit to beat the Eagles. There wasn’t much to quibble over or worry about for the Steelers, other than running back James Conner being taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion. Now Daryl Williams Jersey , they get to wait to see if Le'Veon Bell comes back by next Tuesday’s deadline. But it’s also reasonable to wonder what they’d do with him if he came back, as they’ve now won five straight and have no apparent weaknesses at the moment.

With both Randall Cobb (hamstring) and Geronimo Allison (concussion) unable to suit up for the matchup against the Lions, Marquez Valdes-Scantling took advantage of the opportunity. He established himself as a reliable second option opposite Davante Adams, and if Cobb and Allison miss extended time, he is in flex consideration for their Week 6 matchup on Monday Night Football against the 49ers. Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty ImagesJamison Crowder, Washington Redskins:Week 5 Stats: 4 Receptions, 55 YDS, 9.5 PTSAvailable in 50.7% of leaguesThe Redskins got their rear ends handed to them last night on Monday Night Football in the Big Easy. When looking for any semblance of hope from the blowout, I was impressed with what I saw from Jamison Crowder. He has now recorded four receptions in the past two games for a squad that still has not had a receiver take the reins as the number one option. Josh Doctson continues to miss time due to injuries and Paul Richardson has not really gelled with Alex Smith. Crowder showed poise last night in the midst of a blowout, and he should be given flex consideration for the next few games.Photo by Todd Olszewski/Getty ImagesBold Predictions: Ravens vs. Browns The Ravens head to Cleveland this week to face a young, up-and-coming Browns roster. Baltimore Beatdown contributors detail bold predictions for the contest.Sage’s predictions:Baker Mayfield and Joe Flacco will both throw interceptions. Both quarterbacks have thrown two picks in 2018; however, it is worth noting Mayfield has played in two games to Flacco’s four starts. Still, both signal callers are matched up against ball hawking secondaries. Look for Cleveland’s Denzel Ward to cause a turnover or for Baltimore’s Brandon Carr to kill one of Mayfield’s drives. The Ravens will deliver an improved rushing performance.Baltimore’s stagnant run game has been a blemish on the first quarter of the season. In Week 5 Cheap Joe Flacco Jersey , they will encounter their worst run defense to-date, as the Browns rank 23rd in the NFL. While they have yet to eclipse 100 rushing yards since their Week 1 blowout of the Bills, Cleveland allowed Marshawn Lynch to rush for 139 yards (a 6.5 yard average) in their Week 4 loss.Vasilis’ predictions:Joe Flacco will throw for more than 350 yards.Last year in Cleveland, Flacco’s 288 passing yards was his highest total of the season. Baltimore’s runners are unlikely to find success behind their blockers against the Browns stout front, so #5 will once again be asked to carry the load. With the assistance of Marty Mornhinweg and Willie Snead, he will be up to the challenge. Kenny Young will lead the Ravens in tackles.Young received only 24 snaps last week against Pittsburgh’s pass first offense. He will play nearly every defensive snap this week, as Cleveland leads the NFL in rushing attempts this season. The Browns elite interior offensive linemen trio will focus on blocking Brandon Williams, Michael Pierce and C.J. Mosley, allowing Young to roam free and rack up the tackles.Dustin’s predictions:Baker Mayfield will commit three turnovers. After committing four turnovers in a 45-42 loss to the Oakland Raiders, things will not be any easier against Baltimore for the rookie quarterback in his second start. Mayfield has yet to face a top defense like the Ravens, which is ranked second in total defense, fourth in passing and fourth in rushing yards per game. Baltimore’s elite secondary will get the better of Mayfield and force him into several turnovers, and Terrell Suggs will get his signature strip sack.Myles Garrett will be a non-factor. The Ravens did an excellent job of game-planning for and containing elite pass rusher Von Miller in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg will put together another nice game plan, rendering Garrett useless with chip blocks and double teams. Just like Miller, Garrett will not record a single sack.

Dolphins injury update for Aug. 21 The Miami Dolphins are back on the practice field on Tuesday Daniel Kilgore Jersey , preparing for the team’s third preseason game, a home contest against the Baltimore Ravens. This game, typically the “dress rehearsal” game for the regular season, should feature more of the starters, along with game planning and full pre-game work from the team. Leading to the game, the Dolphins have some lingering injuries that may or may not hold players out on Saturday night. As of Tuesday’s practice, the Dolphins were still without running back Kalen Ballage, linebacker Mike Hull, wide receiver DeVante Parker, defensive end William Hayes, center Jake Brendel Matt Haack Jersey , and safety Trae Elston. Ballage is currently in the concussion protocol while Hull injured his knee during the team’s first preseason game and Parker is battling a broken middle finger, an injury sustained when his hand got caught in another player’s shoulder pads during practice. Hayes has a hamstring injury, Brendel has a calf issue, and Elston is dealing with a shoulder problem. The Dolphins did see several players return to practice on Tuesday, with wide receiver Kenny Stills, tight end MarQueis Gray, cornerback Tony Lippett, and defensive tackle Jordan Phillips all on the field. Stills has had an ankle and calf injury, but appears to be fully back from that, while Gray is still in the concussion protocol, but has been cleared for some practice activities. Lippett and Phillips both missed the team’s game on Friday Cheap Jason Sanders Jersey , but were back at practice on Tuesday. Lippett sustained an ankle injury early in training camp, and is being slowly returned to work, in part because of the Achilles tendon tear he sustained last year. Phillips has been recovering from a shoulder injury. The Dolphins will next play on Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens in the third preseason game for Miami. The Miami Dolphins' run defense is stuck in reverse, perhaps taking the season with it.Poor tackling, botched assignments and a manhandling up front doomed the Dolphins on Sunday, when the Detroit Lions ran for 248 yards to win 32-21.It was Detroit's biggest total in 21 years, and the second bad game in a row for the Dolphins' run defense. They allowed 164 yards rushing a week earlier but still somehow managed to beat the Chicago Bears in overtime."We have a lot of work to do," defensive end Cameron Wake said. "I'm not panicking yet."Lions rookie Kerryon Johnson rushed for 158 yards on 19 carries, including a 71-yard draw play where he was untouched until tackled. LeGarrette Blount added 50 yards on 10 carries, and both repeatedly broke tackles as the Lions averaged 7.1 per rush."Johnson, LeGarrette T.J. McDonald Jersey , they're big backs," Miami defensive tackle Akeem Spence said. "With those guys, you have to tackle in committee. One guy can't bring them down. You need two, three guys. That's on the defense. We just have to be better."With the loss, the Dolphins (4-3) fell out of first place in the AFC East. Linebacker Raekwon McMillan acknowledged they played on their heels."We fell back on our attack-type mentality," he said. That meant the front seven was dominated, with the line surge so tepid Miami had not one tackle for a loss. The issue extended beyond running plays. Matt Stafford had plenty of time to throw and went 18 for 22 for 217 yards and two scores, with just one sack."We couldn't stop them," Miami coach Adam Gase said. "That's just what it was. They were executing better than us, and we just didn't do enough to affect the quarterback. It didn't seem like he got out of rhythm."That was really the No. 1 thing we were talking about all week. That guy, if you give him time and he doesn't feel the pressure up front and we're not tight enough in coverage Cheap Ryan Tannehill Jersey , you're going to have problems."The Lions scored on seven of nine possessions. They punted once and ran out the clock once. And they sustained drives while converting only twice on third down. The Lions gobbled up yards in such large chunks they earned 21 first downs on first- and second-down plays."I'm pretty sure there weren't too many third-and-longs out there," Wake said.Miami's performance was reminiscent of a loss last November at Carolina, when the Panthers racked up 294 yards rushing. The Dolphins won only two more games the rest of the season. In this instance, solutions need to come quickly. The Dolphins play Thursday at the Houston Texans (4-3), who earned their fourth consecutive victory Sunday by winning at Jacksonville."Usually I say you've got about 24 hours to pat yourself on the back or lick your wounds," Wake said. "Now you've got about 30 minutes."Follow Steven Wine on Twitter: ://Steve_Wine

The 5 O’Clock Club: What I learned this week... The 5 o’clock club is published Wednesday to Saturday during the season Morgan Moses Jersey , and aims to provide a forum for reader-driven discussion at a time of day when there isn’t much NFL news being published. Feel free to introduce topics that interest you in the comments below. The Cardinals are bad.Really bad.The Colts are not the same as the Cardinals.Rod Marinelli outcoached Pat Schurmer. The Giants blundered by using the 2nd overall draft pick to draft Saquon Barkley. The Texans are not as good as I thought they would be.One team in the NFL is guaranteed to still be winless this time next week, and there could easily be 3 or 4 teams without a “W” going into Week 4.The Chiefs are better than I thought they would be.The Buccaneers are a lot better than I thought they would be, and Desean Jackson is officially an ‘Eagle Killer’.Why does that seem ironic?Going into Week 3, the Redskins are the only team with four receivers who were drafted with a top-40 pick. Why doesn’t that fill me with pride and confidence?NFL.com’s Power Rankings have the winless Steelers ranked 16th. That’s criminal negligence from Harrison. The Bengals just might be pretty good, and the AFC North looks like a wide-open division this year. The Packers got robbed by a horrible penalty call that could end up costing them a playoff spot at the end of the season. The Jaguars are absolutely for real. The Redskins are the only team in the NFC East that has outscored their opponents in the first two weeks; they currently stand at +6. Eagles are second at 0.Somehow, the Giants & Cowboys, despite playing each other this week, have both managed to accumulate a negative points differential over 2 games. The Lions and the Bills have both given up 78 points through the first two weeks of the season, tied for worst in the league. Each team has a head coach who ‘made his bones’ as a high-profile defensive coordinator.Only the Cardinals (6) and the Bills (23) have scored fewer points through two games than the 28 scored by the Dallas Cowboys.I suck at playing Survivor football competitions. In a 3-life league, I have only one life left after just two weeks.“Business Friday” isn’t going to be a thing going forward, but for D.J. Swearinger, it’s Business Sunday every week.Matt Ioannidis and Jonathan Allen are good football players. After two weeks Tress Way Jersey , the Redskins lead the NFL in two key defensive stats: total yards allowed and passing yards allowed.Don’t believe me?Note that 5 of the 10 defensive leader spots shown above are held by NFCE teams. Also, the Eagles rank first in rushing yards allowed.None of the NFCE teams is in the top 5 in the three key offensive measures (rush yards, pass yards, tot yards). Not sure what to make of all that.I don’t mind the Redskin offense taking ten yard underneath pass plays if that’s “what the defense is giving them”... but not when they’re down by two scores with less than 6 minutes to play. The Eagles, Redskins, Cowboys and Giants are closely grouped in total points scored, with ranks of 22nd for Philly, 25th for ‘Skins, and the two others tied for 27th.In Defensive scoring given up, the NFCE teams rank: Redskins 3rd, Cowboys 5th, Eagles 10th Cheap Da'Ron Payne Jersey , Giants 12th.Aldrick Robinson must be a much better player than we thought he was.Elliott Harrison’s love for the Redskins is not unconditional.I must remember not to laugh at another team’s fan base for thinking their team has an opportunity to actually compete against the Redskins, or even win. They just might be right.Fan base mood swings are frightening.Things could always be worse; my father grew up in New York, and I could have grown up a Giants fan.So, what did you learn this week? Jacksonville Jaguars All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey was unusually quiet Thursday, three days before one of the most anticipated matchups of his NFL career. He was humble. He was focused. He was more of a team player than a look-at-me guy.He seemed somewhat out of character. But the Jaguars probably liked it after weeks of unrest surrounding their star defensive back.Ramsey screamed profanities at media members during training camp, got suspended for a week and then created a stir by calling out several quarterbacks in one interview and blasted a few more players in another .With the season opener against the New York Giants and receiver standout Odell Beckham Jr. looming, Ramsey clammed up."Looking forward to it," said Ramsey, who was added to the injury report because of ankle soreness. "Looking forward to beginning the whole season with the whole team. A lot of people are going to try to make it about me and (Beckham) specifically. That's not what it's about. Football is a team game. There's going to be 11 guys out there for us, 11 guys out there for them. We're going to have to come together and do what we've got to do to try to get a win."It wasn't what anyone expected from the outspoken Ramsey.Beckham insisted Wednesday that Ramsey won't get under his skin and there won't be a repeat of his fight with cornerback Josh Norman in 2016. The three-time All-Pro said he won't take Ramsey's bait.Asked whether that's easier said than done, Ramsey declined to offer much."I don't know," he said. "Again Matthew Ioannidis Jersey , it's not about me. It's about the team."Ramsey downplayed his ability to talk trash, even though he got into a public spat with now-retired NFL receiver Steve Smith in 2016 and upset Cincinnati receiver A.J. Green so much that Green grabbed Ramsey around the neck and slammed him to the ground last year."My play is what really gets people talking, to be honest with you, and that's just extra on top," Ramsey said. "I'm going to be me. I don't think that's something that we need to continue to talk about week in and week in. I'm going to me."Ramsey did acknowledge that he's fine with playing the role of villain."What people who don't know me think about me doesn't affect me, how I live my life, how I go about being who I am," said Ramsey, who became a father for the first time in late July. "I'm not going to change because somebody doesn't like me. There's a bunch or more people in the world."Many of them will tune in Sunday to watch Ramsey line up across from Beckham, who signed a $95 million extension that made him the highest-paid receiver in the league."I think anytime you get two guys like that, that are as big of stars as they are, everybody wants to watch it Womens Shawn Lauvao Jersey ," Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles said. "We'll get our corrections made (on the sideline) and make sure everything's set offensively for the next series and peek up there as much as possible to see what's going on with them. I know they'll both be ready and fired up. It'll be fun to watch."Ramsey surely will have a different demeanor once the game starts. And if he shuts down Beckham, he probably will be even more boisterous. After all, this is the same guy who made it clear two weeks ago that he was "unapologetic" about anything he said about other NFL players. He also opened camp talking about facing Beckham in the opener."Let's get this out the way right now," Ramsey said in late July after reporting to camp a few days late . "He is a good receiver. We all know that. But you all know me at the same time. Yeah, he's good. But I'm good, too. If you want to say he's the best at his position, I'm the best at my position, so we are going to go at it. We are going to give the people a show the first game of the season."He is going to have some wins. I am going to have some wins. I just plan on having more wins. That is the plan I am going to go in there with. ... That is what you all asked for as fans of the game, as (fans of) the NFL, everybody. That is what you all asked for. We are going to give it to you, for sure. I know I am." Custom Washington Redskins Jerseys

Moore and Cam Newton among others, but the crux of this episode is about the decision making and approach the team took while digging themselves into a hole they couldn’t climb out of. Of course we talk about the infamous first drive, where the Panthers ran the ball five straight times before punting on 4th and 1 near midfield. There was also that worst of both worlds drive at the end of the half that almost handed Washington some free points.Fear not though. There is good stuff in this episode. This week's vote counts the hype heading into the Redskins preseason Week 3 game against the Broncos. Place your vote for who you feel has been the most hyped player up to this point, whether the hype is deserved or not.The Rules:1. Player must have been drafted late or signed by the Redskins as an undrafted free agent. Players that have only been on other teams practice squads that are signed by the team are also eligible.2. DB Adonis AlexanderI'm just going to leave what I wrote about Adonis last week here until he actually plays in a game. Alexander has been injured, hasn’t done much of note in camp, and didn’t play against the Patriots(or the Jets). Has that stopped his hype http://www.redskinsfootballauthentics.com/ryan-kerrigan-jersey-authentic , and Jay Gruden from mentioning him following the Scrandrick release? Absolutely not! You can’t spend a 6th round pick next year, and just give up on a physical specimen like Adonis can you?WR Maurice HarrisMaurice Harris should be the starter! He just needs more chances! Did you see that one catch last year! Mo has earned some legit hype in camp and preseason this year, but injuries keep on catching up to him and he won't be on the field in the Broncos game, a big week for the Mason/BrennansOLB Pete RobertsonPetey didn't make the cut last week, but he's back and still trying to get you to remember his name.ILB Jerod Fernandez If you get two sacks in a single preseason game, you're pretty much a lock to be nominated here. WR Cam SimsCams Sims is officially a Hype! STUD, and has already been compared to Julio Jones after two preseason games in the NFL.
