The fourth-seeded Stoke man battled to a 16-14 win over Peter Wright, setting up a semi-final with Van Gerwen, who enjoyed a more comfortable 16-9 victory over Dave Chisnall in Blackpool. In the previous round, Lewis laboured to a win over bitter rival Gerwyn Price and has only shown flashes of his best form ahead of Saturdays showdown with the defending champion. Michael van Gerwen completed a convincing win over Dave Chisnall in the quarter-finals Van Gerwen has barely been pushed on his route to the last four, but Mardle insists Lewis could stun the world No 1, if Jackpot maintains the high standards he showed in closing stages against Wright. We know he can beat him, we know he can beat anyone, Adrian Lewis, Mardle told Sky Sports. You know Michael is going to play well, you just dont know what Adrian Lewis is going to turn up. Hes still an enigma. Hes twice world champ, but still so unreliable, still so unpredictable. Wayne Mardle on Adrian Lewis The focus wasnt there for Michael, because Dave wasnt at the races. The focus will be there for Adrian Lewis. MANCHESTER, N. Gerald Everett Jersey .H. - Martin Jones turned away 40 shots through 65 minutes and four more in the shootout as the Manchester Monarchs edged the visiting St. Johns IceCaps 4-3 on Sunday in American Hockey League action. Nick Shore and Jordan Weal both scored in the shootout for the Monarchs (34-14-7), who extended their win streak to four games. Nick Deslauriers scored twice in regulation for Manchester while Linden Vey added the other. Carl Klingberg, Adam Lowry and John Albert supplied the scoring for the IceCaps (28-19-4), who are on a three-game slide, and Michael Hutchinson made 21 saves in a losing cause. Manchester went 0 for 3 on the power play while St. Johns failed to score on four chances with the man advantage. Johnny Hekker Jersey . Portland won Game 4 Sunday night at the Moda Center and are now up 3-1. The last time the Blazers won a playoff series came in the 2000 Western Conference semifinals against the Utah Jazz. The Calgary Flames have won just once in four home games this season, but a visit from the Montreal Canadiens could improve on that record. The Flames try to avoid their first home loss to the Canadiens in over 12 years on Tuesday night as the clubs clash at the Saddledome. You can listen to all the action starting at 7pm ET/4pm PT on TSN Radio 690 Montreal. Calgary is 1-1-1 on a five-game homestand that ends on Friday versus Nashville, its first run of games at home since a season-opening loss to Vancouver on Oct. 8. The Flames got their first victory as the host this season on Thursday, blanking the Carolina Hurricanes, but fell in defeat to Washington 3-1 on Saturday. Dennis Wideman netted the lone goal and Karri Ramo stopped 27 shots in defeat as Calgary allowed a goal in each period. I dont think we gave ourselves our chance to win ... I dont think we played our best game, Flames head coach Bob Hartley said. That cant be said of Wideman, who leads all NHL defenseman with five goals. They have all come in his past six games and the blueliners goal on Saturday was his 300th career point. Forward Davis Jones, who has missed the last eight games with a lower-body injury, is expected to return to action tonight, but forward Mason Raymond is day-to-day with an unknown injury and not expected to play tonight. Hartley has aalternated starts this season between Ramo and Jonas Hiller, so the latter figures to get the call tonight. Pharoh Cooper Jersey. Hiller is 2-1-2 with a 2.67 goals against average and .912 save percentage in five meetings with the Habs. Hiller will try to extend the Flames nine-game home unbeaten streak over the Canadiens, who have not won in Calgary since Jan. 5, 2002. Calgary is 8-0-0 with a tie since and that includes a victory outdoors on Feb. 20, 2011 at McMahon Stadium. The Habs should present a nice challenge for the Flames given their 7-2-0 start to the campaign. They picked up that second loss on Monday night in Edmonton, falling 3-0 and having a four-game winning streak halted. Carey Price was given the night off and his backup, Dustin Tokarski, made 16 saves for the Canadiens, who had a first-period goal waived off because it was ruled that Brendan Gallagher made contact with Oilers goaltender Ben Scrivens. If we didnt score, that means we werent good enough, said defenseman Andrei Markov. We have to work harder and be better tomorrow. Montreal allowed more than two goals for the first time in four games and will wrap a three-game road trip on Thursday in Vancouver. Price figures to start tonight and is 2-4-0 with a 3.04 GAA and .892 save percentage in six games versus the Flames, all but one of those starts. MONTREAL - Adonis Stevenson has dodged more verbal blows than punches this year and is glad to be getting back in the ring to do some real boxing. Orlando Pace Jersey .The 37-year-old from Montreal will defend his World Boxing Council light heavyweight title Dec. 19 at the Pepsi Colisee in Quebec City against little-known Russian Dmitry Sukhotsky, an opponent who has been panned as yet another easy mark.Stevenson, a power-punching lefthander, had hoped to be in against ring legend Bernard Hopkins, and there was pressure to face heavy hitter Sergey Kovalev, but neither of those bouts came to be.That sparked accusations that Stevenson (24-1) has been ducking the best in the division to milk his title for paydays against second-tier opponents.Stevenson bristled at that suggestion at a news conference on Wednesday. My manager, Al Haymon, negotiates. Im a boxer, he said. If it doesnt happen, Its not my fault and its not Al Haymons fault. Its just negotiations. Its not like Im ducking the best boxers. Its not about that. For sure I wanted to fight Hopkins. When I first won the title I called out Hopkins. Sure Im disappointed, but the negotiations didnt happen with him. Its not that Im afraid of him or anyone.Promoter Yvon Michel said 33-year-old Sukhotsky (22-2) was the best opponent available for the bout, the main event on a card to be aired on the U.S. specialty channel Showtime.Stevenson dropped a planned showdown with Kovalev by leaving the HBO network to join Showtime, hoping for a shot at Hopkins. But the 49-year-old Hopkins left the Canadian out to dry by jumping to HBO to face Kovalev. The unification bout for the IBF, WBA and WBO titles takes place Saturday in Atlantic City.Michel said Stevenson should face a top opponent in the spring in mandatory challenger Jean Pascal. Stevenson and Pascal are both Montreal boxers of Haitian descent, but there is no love lost between them.Pascal, the former WBC champ who lost the title to Hopkins, has been calling Stevenson out for weeks on social media, suggesting the champion is afraid to face any truly dangerous opponents. If hes number one, Ill fight him, said Stevenson. I dont have a problem.Hes just using my name to build up his name. He says Im scared, Im this, Im that. Thats just him talking. Its not going to work.Trainer Sugar Hill said Stevenson has to focus on the fight hes got rather than the ones that might have been.Sukhotsky is not well known, but he has a strong record and has faced some decent opponents. He lost a bid for the WBO title by decision in 2009 to Juergen Braemer in Germany and dropped a decision in 2012 to Cornelius White in Las Vegas. He has never been knocked out or even knocked down. Stevenson had to pick himself up off the canvas in an unexpectedly difficult win by decision in his last outing in May against Andrzej Fonfara.Stevenson joked that while he doesnt know Sukhotsky, he wont Google him. That referred to the bout in which Stevenson won the title in 2013 against Chad Dawson, whose pre-fight trash talk including saying Who is this guy? I had to Google him. Stevenson knocked Dawson out cold in only 76 seconds.I dont know him, but Ive seen some tapes, said Hill. Those are the guys who are most dangerous, the people you dont think about. Its a dangerous fight. Anyone in these big weight classes is a danger because they have the weight to go with the punches. So were not looking past this fight. But truthfully, Adonis doesnt care who hes fighting.Hill is excited to start training next week because they will be moving into a new Kronk Gym in Detroit. The legendary gym that produced Thomas Hearns and other greats has been in a few locations since the original venue was closed by the city. The last location shut its doors when its founder, training great Emanuel Steward, died of an intestinal ailment in 2012, so they trained wherever they could find space.I have to finish putting the ring up, said Hill, Stewards nephew. I have to put Emanuels name on it and things like that.Adonis was at the last Kronk because Emanuel worked with him the last two fights before he passed. This is a more permanent gym, but it will be added delight for Adonis because hes going to be the first one, and the first champion, in that gym. He gets to break the new gym in.The co-feature has former super-middleweight contender Andre Dirrell against an as-yet undetermined opponent. The American Dirrell, (23-1), is on a comeback from a bout with Arthur Abraham in 2010 that left him with a brain injury.Michel said public demand moved Showtime to include Artur Beterbiev (6-0), an impressive Russian light heavyweight fighting out of Montreal. He will face American Jeff Page Jr. (15-0).Beterbiev has needed only 13 rounds to dispatch six opponents, including former world champion Tavoris Cloud, who went down in the second at the Bell Centre in September. But the best bout of the night should be a welterweight rematch between Romanian-born Ionut (Jojo) Dan (33-2) of Montreal and Kevin Bizier (22-1) of Quebec City. The winner gets the No. 1 ranking in the IBF and becomes mandatory challenger to champion Kell Brook of England. The southpaw Dan went into Biziers hometown in November and won a split decision in an action-packed bout. Now he has to do it again, with more at stake.I think I had better experience than him and maybe I wanted it more, Dan said of their last encounter. I know hes got more experience from the last fight and he knows me better, but I know him better too.For sure, itll be an exciting fight. Mark Barron Jersey . MEMPHIS, Tenn. Phil Hughes Jersey . -- Like a red and blue blur, the Dayton Flyers were pressing and passing, shooting and scoring. The waves never seemed to stop coming, with 10, 11 and then 12 players giving them quality minutes. An exhausted and foul-plagued Stanford simply couldnt keep up. The underdog Flyers -- the No. 11 seed in the South Region -- are now in the Elite Eight for the first time since 1984 after an emphatic 82-72 victory Thursday night. "We had 11 guys score in the game and from top to bottom, we kept coming and coming," Dayton coach Archie Miller said. "The way they shared the ball and moved the ball ... it was a true team effort. Its nice that on the biggest stage, we acted like ourselves." Jordan Sibert scored 18 points and freshman Kendall Pollard added a season-high 12 as Dayton (26-10) made sure this one wasnt particularly close after slipping by in the first two rounds. The 6-foot-4 Sibert was spectacular, slashing to the basket and draining 3-pointers, to help the Flyers lead for almost the entire night. Dayton showed its depth early, using a dozen players in the first half to wear down Stanford. "They were relentless," Cardinal coach Johnny Dawkins said. "Thats the best way I can put it." No. 10 seed Stanford (23-13) had the superior post play, but it wasnt enough. Chasson Randle led the Cardinal with 21 points, but shot 5 of 21 from the field. Dwight Powell of Toronto added 17 and Thornhill, Ont., native Stefan Nastic -- who fouled out with more than five minutes left -- had 15. Dayton, the last remaining of the six Atlantic 10 teams in the field of 68, will play top overall seed Florida on Saturday. The Gators beat UCLA 79-68 late Thursday night. It was a good night for the Millers. Archie joined his brother in the Elite Eight after Sean Miller coached Arizona to a 70-64 victory over San Diego State. Sibert finished 7 of 12 from the field, including 4 of 9 from 3-point range. He had plenty of help, including from Pollard, a 6-foot-6 guard who continually got to the basket and helped the Flyers stretch their lead in the first half. "People have been doubting us and not giving us a lot of credit," Sibert said. "I know these guys. I know what Coach wants. We all want to win. At the end of the day we all want to be considered winners." Pollard was averaging two points per game, but Miller didnt hesitate to give him big minutes once he got hot. "This guys a big-time winner," Miller said. "Hes not afraid of anything." Devin Oliver scored 12 points and Matt Kavanaugh added 10. Daytons bench had a 34-2 scoring advantage over Stanford. The Flyers were good in just about every facet, shooting 48.3 per cent (28 of 58) and dishing 19 assists on 28 field goals. They made just about everything they threw at the basket early. Scoochie Smiths corner 3-pointer put the Flyers ahead 15-13 early and Stanfords Powell -- who averages nearly 14 points per game -- was quickly banished to the bench with two fouls. Foul trouble was an early theme, and a much bigger problem for Stanford. The Cardinal rely on a six-man rotation. When the Flyers would lose a man to foul trouble, they simply replaced him with someone who was just as capable. Things went from bad to worse for Stanford late in the first half. The Cardinal fell behind by double-digits and Dawkins was called for a technical foul. Dawkins said it was the right call. "I was just more or less trying to get my team going," Dawkins said. "I thought we were losing momentum, we had already burned a timeout and it was a situation where I wanted to get our guys fired up." It didnt work. Sibert nailed a 3-pointer from the corner to give Dayton a 42-29 lead, though the Flyers had to settle for a 42-32 halftime advantage. Stanford made a comeback early in the second half -- as famous Cardinal supporters Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice looked on -- thanks to strong post play. But the Cardinal simply couldnt stay out of foul trouble. Nastic -- who was leading Stanford with 13 points at the time -- picked up his fourth foul with more than 13 minutes remaining and fouled out with more than five minutes left. Stanford managed to pull within 64-58 after Powell made the bucket and free throw after being fouled, but the Cardinal couldnt get any closer. The Flyers simply kept sending waves at the Cardinal, scoring from inside and out in the final minutes. Both teams had made impressive runs to make it to this point. Dayton had knocked off in-state rival Ohio State and Syracuse while Stanford has dispatched higher-seeds New Mexico and Kansas. Torii Hunter Jersey .com) - Blake Griffin led five Clippers in double figures with 24 points and the LA Clippers got back on track with a 101-97 win over the Utah Jazz. Kennys Vargas Jersey http://www.mlbtwinsonline.com/authentic-paul-molitor-twins-jersey/ .com) - The Calgary Flames were again involved in a game in which a team was held scoreless, only this time they came out on the winning side. The Toronto Raptors werent able to overcome another poor shooting performance from DeMar DeRozan and it cost them their perfect home record. They hope DeRozan can get back on track Saturday night as they host the Utah Jazz. The Raptors (7-2) are tied with Chicago for the Easts best record after having a five-game winning streak snapped in Thursdays 100-93 loss to the Bulls. They shot a season-low 39.3 percent while failing to break 100 points for the first time as DeRozan was 3 of 17 for a season-low 10 points. He scored 16 on 4-of-15 shooting in Tuesdays win over Orlando. Toronto had won its first five home games by an average of 14.8 points while allowing an average of 36.4 points in the paint. Chicago scored 50 in the paint. The Raptors were also 15 of 21 from the free-throw line after averaging 26.2 makes on 31.4 attempts in their 5-0 home start. They were outscored 35-14 in the third quarter. Thats a good experience for us, Jonas Valanciunas, who had eight points and eight rebounds, told the teams official website. Were coming off the win streak so thats good, thats a cold shower for us. Make us regroup and be stronger next game. DeRozan is shooting 38.6 percent in his last three meetings with Utah, though he hit all 21 free-throw attempts. He helped the Raptors sweep last seasons series for the first time as they won two meetings by a combined 39 points after dropping 14 of the previous 15. Utah was 6 of 35 from 3-point range. Kyle Lowry, who scored 20 Thursday, is averaging 9. Brian Dozier Jersey. 0 points on 32.3 percent shooting in his last four games against the Jazz. Utah (4-6) narrowly avoided a third straight loss Friday as Trey Burke buried a corner jumper at the buzzer for a 102-100 win at New York, overcoming a 46-point performance by Carmelo Anthony. The Jazzs last three wins have come by a combined five points. Gordon Hayward - who scored a season-high 33 - hit a shot at the buzzer in a 102-100 win over Cleveland on Nov. 5. Trey is the guy thats been known for hitting big shots, coach Quin Snyder said of Burke, who had 13 points and nine assists. I think hes one of those guys that gets excited when he gets the ball and Gordons been like that, too. Hayward was 11 of 18 after shooting 38.5 percent or worse in three of his previous four games. His 19.9 points per game and 49.6 field-goal percentage would both be career highs. The Raptors are among the leagues best with only 11.7 turnovers a game while Utah is forcing 11.9 per game. Torontos Tyler Hansbrough left in the fourth quarter Thursday with a sore back after a hard fall, though hes not listed on the injury report for Saturday. He scored a season-high 23 in a Nov. 9, 2013, win against the Jazz. Backup point guard Greivis Vasquez is questionable for the contest with a right knee contusion he suffered Thursday against Chicago. Utah is 0-2 on the second night of back-to-backs. RENTON, Wash. Jakob Chychrun Jersey . -- So much for concern that running back Marshawn Lynch would be absent from the Seattle Seahawks minicamp. Shortly after the first day of minicamp began for the Super Bowl champions on Tuesday, Lynch strolled from the Seahawks locker room with his No. 24 jersey pulled over a hooded sweatshirt. Lynch was just a spectator, spending most of his day chomping on sunflower seeds and chatting with teammates. But he was in attendance, avoiding the potential of being fined nearly $70,000 for skipping the mandatory team workouts. "We expected him to be here and he was here," Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. Reports surfaced last week that Lynch might consider not attending the practices in hopes of getting a higher salary for the 2014 season. Lynch signed a four-year contract before the 2012 season. He is scheduled to make $5 million in base salary this season plus per-game roster bonuses. Carroll declined to discuss any conversations with Lynch about his contract. "There is nothing in our conversations about that, the business side of it that well talk about," Carroll said. "There is no reason to. We havent talked about other guys in that regard so were not doing that now." Lynch was not available to speak as he sat out the practice with a sore ankle, according to Carroll. Lynch had not been present for Seattles organized team activities and because of a sore ankle, Carroll said it would be unlikely his running back would be on the field during minicamp. Seattles plan is to make sure Lynch is healthy for the season opener against Green Bay on Sept. 4, which will be a very light load of carries during training camp and the preseason. Even though the Seahawks staff at various times during the off-season has expressed getting more carries for reserves Robert Turbin and Christine Michael, Carroll reiterated that Seattles run game begins with Lynch. Lynch has rushed for at least 1,200 yards in each of the past three regular seasons. Hes gotten at least 285 carries in each of those three seasons and last season during Seattles title run finished the year with 366 carries combined between the regular season and playoffs. That was the fourth-most combined carries for any running back since 2009. "We have rested him a lot in the off-season. He takes a big pounding during the year. It takes him a long time to get his body back to where he doesnt feel the rigours of the season thats past," Carroll said. "In this case its unique but he is a unique player and he has a unique role on our football team, so we have to do what we have to do to take care of him." Lynch could have faced significant fines if he decided not to attend minicamp, but he has shown previously he does not enjoy losing money through fines. Last season, Lynch begrudgingly began speaking to the media during the playoffs in an effort to avoid hefty fines from the league. That included memorable sessions during Super Bowl week where he answered questions for about 20 combined minutes during three days of league-mandated media availability. "Marshawn has really been the guy for us and we love everything about the way he plays and what he brings to this team. Hes never taken a step backward at any time for us in all the years hes been here," Carroll said. "From the day we went after him and got him we had sights on him becoming the player that he has become and he has never disappointed us. Hopefully hell be really healthy and ready to go at the season start and if we have accomplished that with this off-season that will be very successful for him and for our team." NOTES: LB Bruce Irvin, who had hip surgery in early June, was the only player not in attendance. ... Rookie WR Paul Richardson was a full participant after being limited in recent off-season workouts with a sore shoulder. ... Veteran DT Kevin Williams was a full participant one day after signing his contract with the Seahawks after spending his entire career with Minnesota. Antti Raanta Jersey . Nothing pretty. But this is 1/4 World Cup. Usually plays out this way.Winnipeg Jets 6 Minnesota Wild 4 – (Jets 17-18-5, 9-8-4 at home) – It was the first time in four meetings this season that the Jets beat the Wild, and the first game that the game was not decided by a single goal. Although the two goal spread in this game came compliments an empty net goal from Toby Enstrom at 19:56 of the third. It was a wild seven goal first period with some sloppy play by both teams, but not a surprise with three days of being off the ice. The first five goals of the game came in a span of 4:51 with Dany Heatley starting it at 2:13. Evander Kane with his second career shorthanded goal tied the game at 3:48, converting a Michael Frolik pass for his 11th goal of the year. 2:09 later Olli Jokinen (ninth) from Chris Thorburn and Devin Setoguchi put the Jets in front, but only for a minute as Justin Fontaine tied it and seven seconds after that Stephane Veilleux with his first of the year regained the lead for the Wild and at the same time chased Ondrej Pavelec. Al Montoya came in and the game seemed to settle down from a Jets standpoint, and goals by Blake Wheeler (13th) from Jacob Trouba and Andrew Ladd again tied the game, and 1:29 later Dustin Byfuglien snapped a 15 game goalless drought with his seventh to give the Jets a 4-3 lead after one. Eric Tangradi and Adam Pardy drew assists as the Wild outshot the Jets 13-11. Only one goal in the second, that a power play marker by Mikko Koivu, with the Jets outshooting the Wild 10-5 in the second. The Jets kept pressing and fired 17 shots at Niklas Backstrom in the third. Wheelers second of the game (14th) gave the Jets the lead. Bryan Little and Trouba assisted, Troubas fourth multiple point game of the season. It came off a scramble with the Wild feeling the whistle should have gone, although replays showed the call on the ice was correct. Wheeler has now scored nine goals in the last 12 games and shares the team goal scoring lead with Little. The Wild pressed with six attackers, but off a good save by Montoya, Enstrom cleared the puck down the icee, finding the empty net, securing the win and snapping the Jets two game losing streak. Travis Moen Jersey. Wheeler now has 14 career game winning goals. The Jets were minus defencemen Zach Bogosian (flu), Mark Stuart (lower body), and Grant Clitsome (upper). Eric ODell was a healthy scratch, with Paul Postma, Jim Slater and Matt Halischuk still out long term. Wild played without Zach Parise, Josh Harding and Clayton Stoner because of injuries. Keaton Ellerby was back in after sitting the last six and had a season high four shots on goal in 20:51 of ice time. Julian Melchiori made his NHL debut after being recalled from St. Johns and played 8:41. Enstrom led the Jets in ice time at 27:07 and was a plus four. Trouba was also a plus four and also had four shots on goal in 24:49 of ice time. Kane had eight shots on goal to lead the Jets while Mark Scheifele was the best face off man for the Jets winning 13 of 22. The six goals scored was a season high. Ryan Suter played 27:33, down from his usual 30 plus minutes a game. The Jets kept him off the score sheet snapping his seven game assist streak. Montoya is now 4-0 in his career against the Wild and is 6-2-1 on the season. On the goalie change Coach Claude Noel felt his team needed a wake up. "Team needed a jolt. You make a change for different reasons. The message was for our group. There were a lot of good things in the game. I think you could see the three day break in both teams. There were five goals in eight minutes and we made the goalie change that for me, didnt really have anything to do with Pavelec. I thought things settled down in the second. In the third we pushed the game, didnt sit on the 4-4 tie. We put pucks and people to the net." As for being short staffed on the back end, "People have to help out. Collectively play better." Jets now play in Colorado on Sunday (TSN Jets, TSN 1290), before returning home for a New Years Eve game against Buffalo (TSN National). Then its a three game road trip to Ottawa, Boston and Pittsburgh. SOCHI, Russia -- Canada has won mens curling gold with a 9-3 win over Britain. Al-Farouq Aminu Jersey . Brad Jacobs and his Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., team took control of the game early. They scored three in the third and stole one point in the fourth for a 6-1 lead. Its double curling gold for Canada in Sochi after Winnipegs Jennifer Jones won the womens event. Three different Canadian mens teams have won three straight Olympic titles. Ryan Fry plays third for Canada, while second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden are brothers. Caleb Swanigan Jersey . Blackhawks RW Patrick Kane came up big when it counted, tallying two goals and an assist. He scored the game-winner with 4:45 remaining in the third period, stopping on the right hashmarks, carrying the puck up through the top of the Kings zone, then firing a wrist shot from the top of the circles past Jonathan Quick, who had his view obstructed by Andrew Shaw. http://www.blazersteamofficial.com/Brandon-Roy-Blazers-Jersey/ . "But we want the league to know were serious about our position.TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button produces monthly rankings (October-June) of the top players eligible for the NHL Draft. Craigs rankings represent his own individual assessment of where players are slotted in the NHL draft. Leading up to the 2013 NHL Draft, scouts were flocking to watch the Halifax Mooseheads. Rightfully so, as two of the very best players available for that draft, Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin, were tearing it up and making every scout’s trek a worthwhile one. The lead up to the 2015 draft will see scouts making treks to two places to watch very different players, which will be essential for gauging how the draft will ultimately unfold. Erie, Pennsylvania has a long hockey history but one thing is certain, there has never been a star of the magnitude of Connor McDavid lacing them up for the hometown team. A trip to Erie will also afford the opportunity to watch another top prospect for the draft in Dylan Strome. Brother Ryan was the fifth overall selection to the New York Islanders in 2011 and Dylan could do one maybe two better than that. Approximately 550 miles to the East of Erie is Boston, Massachusetts. It’s a direct route on US Interstate I-90 with many service areas to fuel up along the way. Two Massachusetts natives will be the focal point of attention when scouts visit Boston. Jack Eichel, a native of North Chelmsford, may be the new ‘Can’t miss kid’ at Boston University, while Bobby Carpenter is the ‘old’ one. While Jack is taking on Connor for the honor of being selected first overall, defenceman Noah Hanifin at Boston College will be closely watched. A native of Norwood, he fast tracked his high school requirements to enroll at Boston College as a seventeen year old. A smooth, make-it-look-easy defenceman with high end skills, there is some thought that he deserves discussion, even token, about being in the class of McDavid and Eichel. One thing is certain during the coming season. Every trip to Erie or to Boston, will afford scouts the opportunity to see two excellent prospects and create ‘economies of scale’ in the scouting fraternity. 1. FRANKFURT, Germany -- Title holder Bayern Munich got two goals from Thomas Mueller to cruise past Hannover 4-1 in the second round of the German Cup on Wednesday. Sokratis Papastathopoulos Jersey . Bayern beat Hannover in the Bundesliga 2-0 less than two weeks ago and dominated the cup match as well. Mueller opened the scoring in the 17th, Claudio Pizarro doubled the lead in the 27th, before Didier Ya Konan pulled one back for Hannover. But second-half goals from Mueller and substitute Franck Ribery secured Bayerns victory. Schalke advanced by winning 3-1 at third-division Darmstadt, Hertha Berlin went out against second-division Kaiserslautern 3-1, Eintracht Frankfurt beat second-tier Bochum 2-0 and Freiburg edged Stuttgart 2-1. McMorris responded in an email to The Associated Press on Friday that he feels "pretty good" nearly a week after his crash during the Winter X Games slopestyle final. He has a few more days to heal with slopestyle qualifying at the Sochi Games not beginning until Feb. 6. Last weekend, the 20-year-old from Regina caught his snowboard on the lip of a rail and landed hard on the bar, then slid down on his right side before hitting the snow. "I was in a lot of pain and I couldnt breathe," he said in the email. "I just had to get up. I couldnt lay there. I was so disappointed." He made it down the hill that afternoon under his own power and headed to the hospital, where X-rays revealed he had a fractured rib but no other damage. And now McMorris refuses to let the fall derail his Olympic aspirations. "I am really blessed and lucky I get a second chance to try and give it a shot," he said. Asked if his rib might hamper him during competition, McMorris responded: "I cant predict it until I get out there and try." McMorris arrived in Europe early so he could get accustomed to the time difference. He said hes pretty much been "in a stationary place trying to get better. Feeling Ok but my rib is still broken so its not 100 per cent. ... Every day (the rib) gets bbetter and I still have 4 or 5 days before I compete. Neven Subotic Jersey. " Sore rib and all, McMorris will still be one of the favourites as slopestyle makes its Olympic debut. He could be the biggest challenger to Shaun White, who will also try to defend his title in the halfpipe. Pressure being the front-runner? "For sure," McMorris said in an interview at Winter X, a few days before his crash. "Whenever youre at the top of the sport, people look to you to keep going. Ive proven time and time again, that I can get the result. "Now, when were talking on an even bigger level, the Olympics, its really put on my shoulders. But everybody feels pressure. You can either take it in a positive or negative way. I try to feed off of it." McMorris doesnt view White so much with a sense of awe, but rather as simply another competitor in a talent-rich field that includes fellow Canadian rider Max Parrot, who won at Winter X with back-to-back triple-cork jumps. In fact, its White whos been doing most of the chasing in this event, because McMorris has been the snowboarder with the innovative tricks. "(White) is another guy youve got to beat," McMorris said in the interview before his crash. "I go to a contest to ride the best I can. Its in the judges hands after that. Thats what everybody does. I dont think its a sport where youre trying to take down any certain person. Youre trying to win a contest and do the best you can do." BALTIMORE -- The Washington Nationals made themselves right at home at Camden Yards in an interleague duel between crosstown rivals and division leaders. Karl Joseph Jersey . Doug Fister allowed two runs over seven innings and Washington hit three solo homers in a 6-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night. The Nationals usually win with pitching, and Fister was more than efficient. But on this night Washington beat the hard-hitting Orioles at their own game, using home runs by Wilson Ramos, Ian Desmond and Jayson Werth to win this matchup between teams located 40 miles apart on I-295. "This is a good ballpark to hit home runs in," Nationals manager Matt Williams said. "All you need to do is look at the other dugout to see that." Fister (8-2) scattered seven hits, walked two and struck out three. He is 8-1 in his last 11 starts and 52-52 for his career, the first time the right-hander has been at .500 since 6-6 in 2010. "He was pretty good," said Orioles catcher Caleb Joseph, who hit into two double plays. "He sinks the ball so well and hes got that curveball, he didnt bust it out until the second or third time around. And hes got a good enough slider to hit one off the barrel." Fister has earned the right to be considered the ace of a staff that includes Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez and Jordan Zimmermann. But, Williams said, "Everybody has pitched very well. To throw labels on guys isnt fair. They have all pitched very well; sometimes it just doesnt come out as a win." Each team has one win in the rain-shortened, home-and-home showdown that concludes Thursday night. Baltimore is 7-2 in its last nine games and Washington has won eight of 10 overall. "Were getting some momentum together and thats kind of where were at right now," Fister said. "Thats good going into the break." Manny Machado went 3 for 4 with a homer for the Orioles and Chris Davis had two hits and an RBI. Machado is 12 for 21 in four games since returning from a five-game suspension. "I feel fine at the plate, seeing the ball well," Machado said. "Im just trying to keep this going." Orioles starter Bud Norris (7-6) gave up five runs and six hits in four-plus innings in his first appearance since June 21. He won four straight starts before going on the disabled list with a right groin strain. "As much as you do side work and (simulated) games and stuff like that, theres no substitute for the adrenaline and the challenge of facing major league hitters," Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said. "Especially ones as good as Washington has. So it will get better. Weve seen what hes capable of." It was Norris shortest outing of the year, and the five runs and two home runs he allowed matched season highs. "I felt pretty good," he insisted. "Got a little achy there at the end, but Im happy with the results and its kind of out of my head now. Ill get a couple more bullpens in and just go from there and into the break and feel good going into the second half." Washington jumped on Norris for two first-inning runs. After Anthony Rendon and Werth hit successive doubles, Adam LaRoche delivered an RBI single. Davis singled in a run in the bottom half, and Ramos made it 3-1 in the second with a shot to left. Desmond hit his 16th home run in the fourth, a drive that landed in the front row of the bleachers in centre field. Machado got the run back in the home half with his ninth home run, the fifth in eight games. LaRoche added a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Werth homered off Brad Brach in the seventh. The Nationals played their 13th consecutive errorless game, matching their longest streak since coming to Washington from Montreal in 2005. Rendon made several sparkling plays at third base and started a 5-4-3 double play in the sixth after Baltimore put runners at the corners with one out and the score 5-2. "Their third baseman had a great night," Showalter said. "We could have got back in it a little bit but they didnt let us defensively." NOTES: Wei-Yin Chen (0-2, 7.71 ERA vs the Nationals) faces Gonzalez in the series finale Thursday night. ... Ramos extended his hitting streak to a career-high 12 games. ... Washingtons Danny Espinosa went 0 for 3 and is mired in an 0-for-22 skid. His teammate, Bryce Harper, went 0 for 4 and is 4 for 28 since coming off the DL following left thumb surgery. A three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit upheld Bonds conviction in September. WINNIPEG -- Carter Hutton couldnt have asked for a better place to pick up his first NHL win. The 27-year-old Thunder Bay, Ont., native made 38 saves in front of a sold-out MTS Centre crowd that included his parents and several of his closest friends to backstop the Nashville Predators to a 3-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets Sunday night. "They gave me the puck," said the undrafted journeyman who was making just his second NHL start after spending four seasons in the AHL. "But I think the biggest thing we got was the two points." Nashville coach Barry Trotz chose to rest starter Pekka Rinne after the teams Saturday night win in Montreal, giving Hutton the chance to play in the NHL building thats closest to his hometown. "Playing behind Pekka, hes a world-class goalie, so when I do get a chance to play I need to find ways to win hockey games. Thats what they brought me in for," Hutton said, adding that waiting as long as he did for his first NHL victory made it extra special. Patric Hornqvist scored the game-winner for the Predators (5-3-1), while Eric Nystrom and Matt Cullen added goals. Evander Kane had the lone Winnipeg goal. Trotz didnt think his team showed as much energy as it did the night before in Montreal, but gladly took a road win against a division opponent. "We got good goaltending. We feel we can play good team defence most nights and bend but not break," Trotz said. "Hopefully we can develop the offensive part of our game." The Predators recorded only seven shots in the second period, but made three of them count as they took control of the game. The win extended Nashvilles point streak to five games. The Jets (4-5-0) failed for the third time this season to beat a team that arrived in Winnipeg in the wee hours after playing the night before. Head coach Claude Noel didnt think his teams 39 shots provided nearly enough difficulty for Nashvilles inexperienced netminder. "I think thee shots would be an illusion. Tim Brown Jersey. We needed to get secondary shots," Noel said. "I didnt think we created a whole lot." Nystrom opened the scoring 20 seconds into the second period with a shorthanded effort. The left-winger blocked a Dustin Byfuglien point shot, picked up the puck in the neutral zone and went the length of the ice before beating Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec with a wrist shot for his second goal of the season. "A shorthanded goal sucks the life out of your team a bit," said Kane, who thought the Jets were playing a solid game until that point. Hornqvists third of the year made it 2-0 when he intercepted a Pavelec clearing attempt in the corner, sent the puck toward the crease, and banked it into the empty net off the skate of Jets defenceman Zach Bogosian. Cullen added to the lead with a high shot from the left faceoff circle at 14:57. "Were playing pretty well right now," Cullen said. "Were getting some good goaltending and playing some good hockey. Were wearing teams down and have four lines that can skate." Pavelec stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced. The Jets ruined Huttons shutout bid at 9:13 of the third period when Kane jammed in a loose puck for his fifth goal of the season. Cullen had the best chance in a scoreless first period when he came out of the penalty box and scooped the puck up for a breakaway, only to be stopped by Pavelec. The shots were 15-12 Jets after one period. The Jets wrap up their season-long six-game homestand on Tuesday against Washington. The Predators visit Minnesota on Tuesday before heading home for a rematch against Winnipeg on Thursday. Notes: Rookie defenceman Seth Jones logged 26 minutes and 23 seconds of ice time for the Predators. a Forward Devin Setoguchi was back in the Winnipeg lineup after being a healthy scratch against St. Louis on Friday. a The game marked the first meeting between the franchises as Central Division rivals. LOS ANGELES, Calif. Eli Harold Jersey . - With Knicks President Phil Jackson watching from a luxury suite high above the court, his new teams teetering playoff hopes got a big shove from his old teams incredible offensive show. Xavier Henry scored 22 points, Nick Young hit five 3-pointers while scoring 20 points, and the Los Angeles Lakers set a franchise record with 51 points in the third quarter of their 127-96 victory over New York on Tuesday night. Although the Lakers have 16 NBA championships and a luminous list of former superstars, those teams never had a quarter to compare to the 12 magical minutes played after halftime by Los Angeles current patchwork roster. And no Knicks defence had ever given up 51 points in a quarter until this team did it in a key game for its post-season chase. New York dropped three games behind Atlanta for the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. "We hit shots all over the place," Lakers coach Mike DAntoni said. "Its infectious. When you start taking good shots, they start going in, and even the hard shots start going in." Indeed, the Lakers hit 19 of their 26 shots with six 3-pointers, stretching an eight-point halftime lead to 30. Nine players contributed a field goal to the spree, led by nine points from Chris Kaman in his first game action in March. "It feels good, but it only lasts one night," said Henry, who played exceptionally well with a torn ligament in his shooting wrist. "Weve just got to be encouraged for the rest of the season from it." Kent Bazemore scored 18 points as the Lakers won consecutive games for the first time in more than three weeks with a season-high 82 points from their reserves, including Henry and Young. Jodie Meeks had four 3-pointers as Los Angeles finished one 3-pointer shy of the single-game club record during the Lakers highest-scoring game of the season. Five players hit multiple 3-pointers, including three apiece for Henry and rookie Ryan Kelly. Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points for the Knicks, who have lost two straight after an eight-game winning streak. Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 17 points and Amare Stoudemire had 16 in the Knicks seventh straight road loss to the Lakers since 2007. "At the end of the day, its just individual pride," said J.R. Smith, who had 12 points. "You have to have pride in guarding your man, guarding the ball, and we just didnt have that the last three quarters." The Knicks are assured of a losing season with their 42nd loss, and the Hawks have two games in hand in the playoff race. Those high stakes and Jacksons looming presence werent enough to spur New York to a competent defensive performance. "I thought we came out ready to play," New York coach Mike Woodson said. "I mean, we held them to 14 points in the first quarter, and then that second and third quarter, all hell broke loose. We just didnt have any answer for them from a defensive standpoint. I thought the plan was perfect starting the game, and when they went to their bench, they came out blazing and we just couldnt control them." Jacksons fiancee, Lakers executive Jeanie Buss, watched from the second row. The 11-time NBA champion coach arrived late at the building where he won five titles with the Lakers, who declined to re-hire him early last season, infuriating much of their fan base. With Pau Gasol sidelined by vertigo, Kaman had 13 points and nine rebounds as the Lakers starting centre. Steve Nash also sat out for the 17th time in the Lakers last 18 games. The Lakers missed 13 of their 18 shots in a 14-point first quarter, but rolled off a 22-4 run in 5 1/2 minutes to open the second. Meeks and Jordan Hill then expanded the Lakers lead with a 12-0 run early in the third before the Lakers really got rolling. NOTES: Young converted a four-point play in the third quarter. He has six of the Lakers nine four-point plays this season, both franchise records. ... Gasol will be re-examined Wednesday before the Lakers determine whether he will travel with them to Milwaukee and Minnesota this week. ... Metta World Peace, the former Knicks and Lakers forward, attended the game. New York waived the former Ron Artest on Feb. 24. He got a rousing ovation from the Staples Center crowd when he appeared on the scoreboard in the first half, and he sat in Jacksons box during the second half. C. J. Beathard Jersey . -- Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer will be out three to six weeks with a stress fracture of the third finger of his right hand. Eric Reid Jersey . JOHNS, N.TIJUANA, Mexico -- Ecuador striker Jaime Ayovi scored twice in the first ten minutes to lead Tijuana to the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals with a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Tuesday. Ayovi scored in the 2nd and 9th minutes as Tijuana claimed a 4-3 aggregate win over the two legs of the quarterfinals. Argentine striker Dario Benedetto added a goal in the 26th minute and Richard Ruiz lengthened the lead in the 80th for Tijuana. Robbie Keane scored off an Omar Gonzalez pass in the 46th minute and found the net again in 84th for the Galaxy. Tijuana, playing for the first time in the regions top club tournament, will play either Sporting Kansas City or Mexico City-based Cruz Azul in the semifinals. The Mexicans started strong and took the lead when Argentine Christian Pelleranos shot inside the boox was deflected by goalkeeper Jaime Penedo and the rebound fell to Ayovi, who scored from two meters (yards). Roger Craig Jersey. Ayovi got his second goal off a long cross from Pellerano and dribbled the ball past Penedo before finishing finished with a soft touch. Tijuana*s third goal came when Benedetto stole the ball from Brazilian defender Leonardo Da Silva and scored with a powerful shot to the right post of the goalkeeper Penedo. The Galaxy drew one back when Landon Donovan sent a cross inside the box to Gonzalez, who headed the ball to Keane for the goal. Ruiz made it 3-1 with a powerful strike inside the box, but Keane scored again to keep the Galaxy in touch. The Galaxy pushed for a third goal that would have been enough to advance on aggregate, but the Tijuana defence held on for the win. Ondrej Palat also scored for Tampa Bay (4-1-0) and Evgeni Nabokov stopped 21 shots. Roberto Luongo made 30 saves for the Panthers (0-3-2). TORONTO - Booed off the ice at the second intermission, the Toronto Maple Leafs watched another blue and white jersey get hurled to the ice in the third period. Xabi Alonso Jersey .They werent happy about that or their performance in a 4-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.Any time you lose in the National Hockey League, as players, were not happy about it, captain Dion Phaneuf said Friday night. The fans have a right to be upset. They come to support us, they want to see winning hockey and we want to win for them. But when we dont play well, its unfortunate when jerseys are thrown on the ice.It was a night of frustrating turnovers, penalties and missed assignments for the Leafs (2-3-0) as they hung goaltender James Reimer out to dry. Coach Randy Carlyle estimated his team turned the puck over 11 times and went offside four times just in the first period. For whatever reason, we find ways to make life more difficult for ourselves, and thats the most frustrating part, Carlyle said. We played too much on our heels and in the defensive zone.Defenceman Jake Gardiner said, it seemed like (the Red Wings) had more players on the ice than we did.Thats never a good sign.It didnt help that Henrik Zetterberg was at his best, finishing with four assists including the primary one on each of the Red Wings first three goals. The captain called his last game Wednesday against the Boston Bruins one of the worst of his career and avenged it in a major way against the Leafs. It was nice to feel better today and bounce back a little bit, Zetterberg said.Zetterberg took advantage of a turnover by Roman Polak to set up Johan Franzens first of the night, then made the most of a bad change by Morgan Rielly for Franzens second. Zetterberg won a race to a puck on Nyquists fourth goal in four games this season, and he picked up a secondary assist on Justin Abdelkaders goal with Cody Franson standing frozen in front of the net.Detroit coach Mike Babcock called Zetterberg his teams catalyst. Jimmy Howard made 23 saves but wasnt tested much in goal.Down at the other end, Reimer wasnt at his sharpest in allowing four goals on 35 shots.I dont think we played up to the standard that were capable of, and myself included, said Reimer, who was making his third straight start. I got to find a way to come up with a couple big saves there to keep it close.Carlyle, whose comment about Reimers play being OK, just OK in a game late last season at the Red Wings caused an uproar, absolved his goaltender of much of the blame in this loss. Two goals were goal-mouth passes so we obviously missed assignments, Carlyle said. You cant blame your goalie for scoring from the crease, tap-ins.Jonathan Bernier is expected to start when the Leafs visit Joe Louis Arena on Saturday night for the second half of this back-to-back. Babcock said ex-Leafs goaltender Jonas Gustavsson will get the nod for the Red Wings (2-1-1).The Leafs will not have winger Brandon Kozun for that game and quite possibly for a long time after he suffered what appeared to be a high-ankle sprain. Carlyle said Kozun will have an MRI on his left ankle Saturday, something that means either Matt Frattin or Carter Ashton will be in the lineup in Detroit. It could be both if forward Daniel Winnik, who left the game with an upper-body injury, cannot play.Kozun was the most pleasant surprise of training camp and had been one of the Leafs best penalty-killers so far this season. He was part of Torontos 5-for-5 effort Friday night before getting injured.Franzen, whose two goals were his first of the season, left in the second period with leg spasms but said hell probably play Saturday. It just cramped up, the whole side, a really tight spasm, Franzen said. It relaxed a little bit, I got out for the next shift and it just seized up on me. As soon as I pushed it just cramped up on me, so hopefully it goes away tomorrow.Mike Santorelli scored the Leafs only goal, infusing some life into Air Canada Centre 21 seconds into the third. It quickly dissipated, and then more than halfway through a fan tossed his jersey onto the ice.Its the second time in four home games this season that a fan has done that. Its not the majority of fans, its one or two fans that are displeased and they want to show their displeasure that way, but I dont agree with it, Phaneuf said. Not agreeing with it doesnt mean Phaneuf disagreed with the displeasure itself. Other than the penalty kill, there wasnt much for the Leafs to be thrilled about in this defeat.Every game things arent going to go our way, Phaneuf said. When the momentum shifted against us, it seemed to be a hill that we just couldnt overcome and we have to work on that.Notes — This was the first of eight Friday night games for the Leafs this season and first of three at Air Canada Centre. In the past nine seasons dating to the 2004-05 lockout, Toronto hosted a total of three Friday night games. ... I love big projects, he said. No kidding. At the 2013 Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, I met Eric Tulsky, who presented research on the value of controlled zone entries (short answer: about twice as valuable to enter with control of the puck rather than dumping it in) and Sznajder had charted a couple hundred games that were included in that study. Joshua Kimmich Jersey . George Hill had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Pacers, who stayed atop the overall NBA standings despite losing twice on their West Coast trip. The U. Richie Incognito Jersey .S. and Canada share more than the longest undefended border in the world. We share a love of contemporary music. How else can you explain the popularity of Michael Bolton on both sides of the 49th parallel? Therefore, Jay Onraits move to FOX Sports 1 will not deter him nor TSNs Dave Hodge from counting down their Top 20 Albums of the Year. DAVE HODGES TOP 20 ALBUMS OF 2013 (Free of pithy commentary) 1. Houndmouth — FROM THE HILLS BELOW THE CITY JAY ONRAITS TOP 20 ALBUMS OF 2013 1. Vampire Weekend -- "Modern Vampires in the City" ... I got this album and listened to it once and enjoyed it, and then my friend Pat Thornton of pats24hrs.com fame sent out a tweet that said it was easily their greatest album, and then I replied and said, "Yeah, I think it is a great album," and then he said, "NO, ITS THE GREATEST!" but he didnt shout because Pat is a gentle man. Bottom line: This is the greatest album this band has put out, a modern classic, and the album of the year for 2013. Pat said so. 2. Foxygen -- "We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic" ... I bought it on recommendation from a friend, gave it a listen and I havent stopped listening since. Sounds like something that could have come out between "If You Believe Your Eyes and Ears" by the Mamas and the Papas and "John The Wolfking of LA" by John Phillips in the late 60s. Every track is a winner. 3. Kurt Vile -- "Wakin on a Pretty Daze" ... This is one of those guys who always sounds like he is stoned but insists in every single interview he is NOT stoned even though he cant really get his words out properly and the title of the album is kind of a giveaway. You dont need to be stoned to enjoy it. The songs are long and flowing and full of loopy guitars and ... never mind. 4. Deerhunter -- "Monomania" ... Their last album was my favourite record of 2010 ("Halcyon Digest"), and when I first heard this one I thought, "Oh crap, theyve screwed it up this time." But as usual I was wrong. Bradford Cox is a little like the Prince of the indie-rock world, recording more material than he can possibly put out and probably storing it somewhere in his purple-coloured mansion for release upon his death. And by "purple-coloured mansion," I mean his apartment because no one is making money from music anymore. 5. Superchunk -- "I Hate Music" ... These guys are OLD and they keep putting out great record after great record. Its like the opposite of The Killers. 6. Yo La Tengo -- "Fade" ... See No. 5. 7. Arcade Fire -- "Reflektor" ... I have to admit I thought they had gone a little overboard with that special after their Saturday Night Live appearance where Michael Cera was speaking Spanish, and then I thought they had gone a little overboard when they asked all their fans to put on suits and dresses for their concerts, and then I listened to the record. Its really good. James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem handles a lot of the production. I love Regine Chassagnes voice. They might be the biggest band in the world and theyre based in Montreal. I guess I can put on a suit for that. 8. Daft Punk -- "Random Access Memories" ... When I first moved to L.A., I would leave work at night and put this album on in my car and listen to the first track "Give Life Back To Music" while cruising down the 10 on the way home and it felt very "L.A." Then I would shut the song off and "Hollywood Nights" by Bob Seger would come on the radio and it felt even more L.A. Then I would get stuck in traffic. 9. Imaginary Cities -- "Fall of Romance" ... When I was living in Winnipeg, I asked a guy why so many amazing musicians come from that city -- Neil Young, The Guess Who, Weakerthans, the list goes on and on. His theory was as follows: If you are a city that is blisteringly cold and covered in snow for at least half the year, you do a lot of drugs and learn to play instruments. I think that may be over-simplifying it a bit, but these guys opened for the Pixies. 10. Neko Case -- "The Worse Things Get" ... Neko has a very interesting and vulnerable Twitter feed. She is very real and honest about her fears and hopes and loneliness. She also happens to have one of the greatest voices in music today. 11. Best Coast -- "Fade Away EP ... Speaking of great voices and great social media feeds, Best Coast lead singer and songwriter Bethany Cosentino recently sent out an Instagram pic of Peg Bundy and Kelly Bundy from "Married With Children" in which they said, "I want to do nothing. I want to be nothing," and she said, "Exactly." She is also obsessed with Seinfeld. Basically she is perfection. 12. Speedy Ortiz -- "Major Arcana" ... You had me at "sounds like early 90s indie rock." 13. Ty Segall -- "Sleeper" ... This is a pretty mellow effort from a guy who puts out an album a year. Sometimes three. Having said that (as Larry David would say), this might be his best. 14. Parquet Courts -- "Light Up Gold" ... See No. 12. 15. Mikal Cronin -- "MCII" ... This guy plays bass and sings in Ty Segalls backup band, and Ty Segall is pretty much constantly touring so it must have been tough to find the time to record this album. But thank God he did! It sounds like modern day Matthew Sweet! 16. Waxahatchee -- "Cerulean Salt" ... And this one sounds like modern day PJ Harvey! All the songs are amazing. This is the kind of album you should buy for that mysterious and somewhat standoffish girl at work youre trying to court but she clearly thinks youre an idiot. This will show her. This will show her you ARE an idiot but you have good taste in music. 17. Volcano Choir -- "Repave" ... Bon Iver guy Justin Vernons other group. If I told you this was the new Bon Iver album you would just shrug and say, "Sounds pretty good! When is he on SNL again, and is he bringing that big guy who plays the chimes and trombone?" or something to that effect. 18. Brendan Canning -- "You Gots 2 Chill" ... I saw Brendan recently and forgot to ask him this: Was the title of this album some motivational message he wrote himself on a Post-It note that he stuck on the fridge one night after he got a bit too passionate during a drunken argument with friends? Ill bet it was. Not that Im speaking from experience or anything (Im speaking from experience). Perfect Sunday morning record. Also youre supporting a hard-working Canadian artist here, so get the vinyl! 18. Tegan and Sara -- "Heartthrob" ... I remember when I was hosting The Big Breakfast in Winnipeg and our Producer had just come from The Big Breakfast in Calgary and she told us they would have Tegan and Sara on the show all the time because they were born and raised in Calgary. I really loved Tegan and Sara and hoped we might get them to appear on our show as well. That never happened because they became huge stars. I couldnt have been happier for them, but I really think they would have liked our coffee. 19. (tie) Local Natives -- "Hummingbird"/Camera Obscura -- "Desire Lines" ... Good, but I was expecting better. Like Larry Davids "Clear History" or "Man of Steel" or "Hooters Restaurant." 20. My Bloody Valentine -- "mbv" ... Like the opposite of "Chinese Democracy." However, the intensity and physicality that has characterized the postseason so far has caught Gretzky by surprise. "Its a little bit risqué right now," Gretzky told Philadelphia radio station 97.Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - A rare Saturday matinee and a trip to American Airlines Center wasnt enough to slow down the best team in basketball. Three Warriors scored 20-plus points for the first time this season and Golden State extended its franchise-best win streak to 15 with a wire-to-wire 105-98 road victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Steph Curry scored a game-high 29 points, Klay Thompson had 25 and Draymond Green netted 20 for the Warriors, who last had three players drop 20 points or more on April 1, 2013, in a 122-120 win over the Mavs. Fifteen wins in a row, its hard to fathom, said Thompson. This is a special group. The Warriors improved to 20-2 on the season. They havent lost since Nov. 11. Monta Ellis led Dallas with 24 points and Dirk Nowitzki had 23. Richard Jefferson, in his first start of the season, added 13 points and 13 rebounds. I love Jefferson, I love the way he plays, offered Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle. He plays with a lot of force. The 3s were falling early for Golden State. Thompson hit a pair and Curry drained a stepback to help the Warriors to a 15-5 lead less than four minutes in. The lead kept growing, with Curry following his deep 3 with a no-look pass to Shaun Livingston for a layup that pushed the spread to 30-13. Curry put the finishing touches on a dominant first quarter with an acrobatic lefty layup in transition and a corner 3 with under a minute to play. His stepback 3-point try at the buzzer missed short, but he still dropped 13 and the Warriors led 39-18. Kelvin Benjamin Jersey. Weve got to be all there from the very beginning until the very end, said Carlisle. The first quarter did us in. The lead grew to 28 before a mini rally late in the half had Dallas within 22, 66-44, at halftime. An 11-1 Dallas run made things interesting early in the third. Tyson Chandlers alley-oop from Ellis near the midpoint of the period had Dallas within 13 before a 3 1/2 minute scoring drought plagued the hosts. Green made five free throws and Curry got a runner to fall as Golden State restored its 20-point lead. The Warriors went cold late in the game, and Brandan Wright scored seven of Dallas points during a 11-0 run that made it 100-92. TSNs Jack Armstrong offers his thoughts on a possible comeback by Jermaine ONeal, the availability of Brandan Wright, the resurgence of DJ Augustin, the solid play of the Suns and the upcoming homestand for the Raptors. Alonzo Mourning Jersey . 1. Jermaine ONeal: Lots of chatter about him making a comeback. I thought he did a very nice job last season for the Warriors and have no doubt that if he decided to give it one more run, hed be a solid contributor off the bench for a contending team. Gives you some rebounding and rim protection which is vital for anybody serious about getting it done in the spring season. 2. Brandan Wright (Celtics): Since being traded in the Rajon Rondo deal from the Mavs, his minutes are down. This is a guy contending teams might be calling GM Danny Ainge about. Has had a solid season overall shooting over 70 per cent (mostly dunks and offensive rebounds) while averaging 7.5ppg and 3.6rpg and gives you a little lane intimidation (1.3 blocks pg). Not a big strong guy but quick, agile and athletic with good length who, as a second unit insurance policy, could be helpful to a team in the hunt. 3. DJ Augustin (Pistons): Nice to see him resurrect his career since being waived by the Raptors last season. Went to Chicago and helped the Bulls stay afloat and make the playoffs without Derrick Rose and now is giving Detroit a true professional presence off the bench as they turn it around after the Josh Smith release. Can score in bunches and shoot the 3. High energy and changes speeds well. Glad hes found a home - good guy. 4. Phoenix Suns (21-16): Rolling along right now, winning 9 of 11. Have seen them in person twice vs. the Raptors and a number of other times on TV and really like their club. Not even sure if theyll be able to hold on and make the playoffs in the brutal West but Ill say this - you put them in the East, theyre not only a playoff team but a contending team in the top five or six teams due to the fact that the confidence of the additional wins would trigger even greater performance from some of their guys. At times, I dont think these guys know how good they can be. They have guard play, quickness, 3-point shooting, toughness and sound coaching. Fun to watch. 5. Raptors (6 at home): Hopefully, DeMar DeRozan is back and they begin to play much better defence with his knowledge of the system. With him back in the mix, theyll get to the FT line more and other guys will settle back into roles that suit them much better. Overall, they did a solid job playing without him and now its time to get this back on track and moving in the proper direction. Opportunity to get some much needed practice time and get things re-established as the schedule gets closer to the mid-point. Good club with the potential to be very good if they get the defence right. As Ive mentioned before, probably one player away to help big-time in the front court. Fun to be 24-10 right now with a chance to grow from there. Vital stretch right here to improve and protect home court. Gerald Green Jersey . Re-signed by the club to a one-year, two-way (NHL/AHL) contract on July 5, Bass appeared in three preseason games with Columbus prior to breaking a bone in his hand on Sept. James Johnson Jersey . The club announced on Wednesday that Malhotra signed a 25-game professional tryout contract. The 33-year-old suffered a serious eye injury when struck by a puck during a game versus Colorado in March of 2011. http://www.basketballheatshop.com/Cheap-Glen-Rice-Heat-Jersey/ . Its been two seasons in one for both parties and neither will look back on the first 18 games fondly. "I think I took the fall for a lot of things," said Gay, reflecting on his short time in Toronto ahead of Wednesdays game against his former club.Oxford, MS - Perhaps Mississippi was caught looking ahead with an October gauntlet in the SEC looming -- at least through the first three quarters. Bo Wallace tossed both of his touchdown passes to Laquon Treadwell, who posted five receptions for 123 yards, and the 10th-ranked Rebels pulled away from Memphis, 24-3, on Saturday night. Turnovers, penalties and missed field goals marred the offensive and special teams side of the ball, despite the Rebels outgaining the Tigers, 426-104. They recorded four turnovers, were penalized 10 times for 117 yards and Andrew Fletcher missed a pair of field goals. Ole Miss outscored Memphis 17-0 in the fourth quarter. The Rebels October stretch against Alabama, Texas A&M, Tennessee and LSU will determine if they will be a threat in the SEC West, which has six of its seven teams ranked in the Top 25. The Rebels (4-0) are 4-0 for the first time since 1970. Wallace was 22-of-37 for 248 yards with two interceptions and also lost a fumble. Jaylen Walton carried the ball 10 times for 78 yards and a score for Ole Miss, which held the Tigers to 3-of-16 efficiency on third down. Paxton Lynch completed just 13-of-31 passes for 81 yards with one pick for the Tigers (2-2). Treadwell hauled in a 63-yard TD pass on the Rebels second drive and they were clinging to a 7-3 lead heading into the final frame. In between, the Rebels committed all four of their turnovers, Fletcher misfired on field goals of 40 and 43 yards, respectively, and Mark Dodson had a 71-yard TD run called back due to a holding penalty. Fletcher shook off his prrior two misses and nailed a 19-yard field goal to cap a 16-play, 75-yard drive early in the fourth. Justise Winslow Jersey. The defense lifted the Rebels again just over three minutes later. Marquis Haynes strip-sacked Lynch from behind and Issac Gross recovered the fumble at the Memphis 23. Walton then broke off a 23-yard TD scamper along the right sideline on the very next play to make it 17-3. Wallace hit Treadwell for a 17-yard score in the back of the end zone on a 3rd-and-6 with 1:18 left to cap the scoring. The Rebels opened the scoring on the second play of their second drive. Wallace lofted his play-action pass to a wide-open Treadwell over the middle. Memphis safety Fritz Etienne chased him down around the 5-yard line, but Treadwell was able to dive, stretch and extend the ball over the goal line for the score. A brawl broke out following the ensuing kickoff. Keith Lewis body slammed Joe Craig to the turf after he was downed earlier on the play. This led to a fracas between the teams along the sideline. Wallace fired an interception, Cody Core fumbled and Fletcher missed the first of his two field goals to conclude each of the next three Rebels possessions. Memphis was unable to take advantage against Ole Miss stout defense, however, managing just a 40-yard Jake Elliott field goal late in the first. Game Notes Ole Miss was 7-of-15 on third down and held a 26-13 edge in first downs ... The Rebels held the ball for 36:38 ... Ole Miss outgained Memphis 233-57 in total yardage in the first half and limited the Tigers to minus-seven yards rushing. Boris Diaw was on his way out of the NBA when he arrived in San Antonio, where the Spurs were trying to breathe new life into a core that had not won a championship in five years. David Harris Jersey . They proved to be a perfect match, and after playing a key role in the Spurs latest championship, Diaw found no reason to continue his career renaissance elsewhere. Diaw tweeted Sunday night that he agreed to terms on a new contract with the Spurs and a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press that its a three-year contract worth $22 million. The person requested anonymity because the contract cannot be signed until the leagues moratorium ends Thursday. "Hey spurs fans, Good news," the French-born Diaw tweeted, "i stay in san antonio for a few more years. Lets win it again." For the 32-year-old Diaw, it was a chance to get one last big payday that he earned by providing some essential versatility on both ends of the court for the Spurs. He averaged 9.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists and shot over 52 per cent in 25 minutes per game last season. For the Spurs, it was the chance to keep together a team that posted the best record in the NBA last season and dominated the two-time defending champion Miami Heat in the finals. They have already learned this summer that Tim Duncan is returning next season and backup point guard Patty Mills will be back as well after a long rehabilitation of a shoulder injury. The Spurs decided to give Diaw a hearty raise after watching him blossom in a system Gregg Popovich designed to keep the ball moving at all costs. But they also protected themselves by only partially guaranteeing the third year of the deal, which was first reported by Yahoo! Sports. He will be guaranteed $15.5 million over the first two seasons of the contract, a big boost from the $4.7 million he made last year. "Hes perfect for them," former Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman said about Diaw and the Spurs during the season. Diaw was considered a rising star in the early portion of his career in Phoenix, a lithe, athletic, big man with the vision of a point guard that flourished with the run-and-gun Suns. But his career nose-dived soon after when he was traded to the Charlotte Bobcats in 2008. He put on weight and didnt appear interested in playing for a team with no hope of contending. The Bobcats waived Diaw near the end of the 2012 season, and the Spurs brought him in to see if he could rediscover his game while playing alongside close friend and countryman Tony Parker. Thats exactly what happened. It didnt take long for Diaw to make a good impression with Popovich, and he signed a two-year deal to stay with the Spurs that summer. He still carries a few extra pounds, but the deft passing, precise defensive positioning and floor-stretching shooting all have reappeared and been vital to San Antonios two straight finals appearances and its run this spring to a fifth championship. ___ Follow Jon Krawczynski on Twitter: http://twitter.com/APKrawczynski New England Patriots Jerseys . The league announced Thursday that Tom Higgins is leaving that post effective immediately. In fact, with a few improvements, this could very well be a decent team over the next few seasons. I will go into more detail when digging into the Canucks Off-Season Game Plan, which will be coming earlier this year since they are part of the non-playoff contingent, there are some reasons to think this is a favourable situation for President of Hockey Operations Trevor Linden and whomever he selects to be the new general manager.MIAMI - Dwyane Wade is giving fans an inside look at his journey to a third championship. Wade is posting a short film on his website next week, with a sneak preview scheduled to come out Wednesday. The video features the Heat guard explaining some of what he went through while battling injuries last season, along with some never-before-seen footage of his workouts and a sparring session that he and LeBron James endured before Game 1 of the NBA Finals. "I think its going to give people a different perspective on what it all meant to me," Wade said. The video is titled "D. Wades Journey to 3," a play on both his jersey number and his number of titles won so far with the Heat. A copy of the video was reviewed by The Associated Press this week. "The only outcome I see is winning," Wade said on the night before Game 7 of the title series against San Antonio, those words coming early in the video. "I dont see no other thing but winning." A night later, the Heat won Game 7, with Wade finishing with 23 points and 10 rebounds while playing with three bone bruises in his right knee. Scenes from the teams postgame celebration and the ensuing parade are part of the film. One of the more compelling scenes in the video was filmed the evening before Game 1 of the finals, when Wade and Heat teammate LeBron James got a late-nigght workout in that even included them lacing up boxing gloves and doing some sparring. Tedy Bruschi Jersey. . It shows Wade pushing a heavily weighted sled — screaming "I need three" to motivate himself — and catching medicine balls tossed his way by James as part of a core workout. At the end of that session, Wade and James are both on the floor, covered in sweat and gasping for breaths. "Road to a championship, man," James said. "It aint easy," Wade replied. Theres also some scenes that show Wade relaxed at home, with his two sons and his nephew. His younger son Zion looks at the camera at one point and quips, "Whos Charles Barkley, anyway?" — a bit of a zing directed toward one of Wades more outspoken critics. Wade also addresses how he handles things when people say his game is in decline. "A lot of people are all, He aint got it no more. He aint this. He aint that," Wade said. "Anybody who wants to pick up a basketball and meet me at the gym can do that." Wade battled a number of injuries last season, and still averaged 19.6 points in the title series against the Spurs. The Heat guard said hes eager to have his fans get a different view of his life. "I dont know whats next," Wade said in the video. "But whats next, its going to be special." SAO PAULO, Brazil -- Reduced to 10 men for over half the match, Belgium still beat South Korea 1-0 on Thursday to finish atop of Group H and eliminate the last Asian team from the World Cup. Jordan Phillips Jersey . With a late goal yet again, Belgium made the difference in the 78th minute when defender Jan Vertonghen followed up a shot from teenage striker Divock Origi and tapped in the rebound past goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu. "We knew all games were going to be tough," said Belgium coach Marc Wilmots. "But even with 10 men, we still pushed forward. These guys are really hungry." After three narrow victories and precious little beautiful play, Belgium will now play the United States in Salvador on Tuesday. "Mission accomplished," said Wimots. And along with Iran, Japan and Australia, South Korea departed as the last team from the Asian federation, all in the first round. Algeria finished second in the group after a 1-1 draw with Russia -- a result that meant South Korea needed a four-goal win to advance. They never came close. "All of our players did their utmost. They gave it their all but I think that it was my shortcoming, my failing as a coach that caused this result," said coach Hong Myung-Bo. The former captain of the 2002 team which reached the semifinals did not offer his resignation, though. South Korea did not go without a strong fight, landing the ball on Belgiums crossbar on the hour-mark and testing standout goalie Thibaut Courtois with several shots afterward. Yet even with a man up, the Koreans could never pressure Belgium enough to find an opening and paid the price. For scorer Vertonghen it was a bit of redemption after he caused the penalty against Algeria in the opener which forced Belgium into late histrionics to come back and claw out a 2-1 victory. "I really felt bad after that but now only joy is left," he said. Belgium promised to play with flair in this tournament but is proving that its still a master at grinding out results. "It gives us so much confidence to get those nine points with only 10 men and prepare for the Americans in that mood," Vertonghen said. Having a goalie like Courtois does make it easier, especially as its defence was missing injured starters Vincent Kompany and Thomas Vermaelen. But the Belgians also proved they sorely lacked the creative skills of Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard, who were on the bench from the start. On the hour mark, South Korea came closest to scoring when Son Heung-min saw a cross float right onto the crossbar beyond the reach of Courtois. Belgium fielded four World Cup newcomers, but was reduced to three in the 45th minute when Steven Defour planted his studs, leg outstretched, into the shin of Kim Shin-wook. Australian referee Benjamin Williams didnt hesitate to pull out the red card. Earlier, the South Koreans almost scored around the half-hour mark. First, a long-distance drive from Ki Sung-yeung forced Courtois into a great diving save and, one minute later, Defour kicked a ball off the line in another goalmouth scramble. Mertens could have lifted the pressure off Belgium in the 25th minute he was left wide open eight meters out. He skied the ball over, immediately opening his mouth in disbelief at having missed such a chance. In the second half, South Korea brought on a second full striker in Lee Keun-ho for even more pressure. The Asians created a flurry of chances early in the second half, but either Courtois showed his class or the South Koreans lacked any precision. ------ Lineups: South Korea: Kim Seung-gyu; Lee Yong, Kim Young-gwon, Hong Jeong-ho, Yun Suk-young; Lee Chung-yong, Han Kook-young (Lee Keun-ho, 46th), Ki Sung-yueng, Son Heung-min (Ji Dong-won, 73rd); Koo Ja-cheol, Kim Shin-wook (Kim Bo-kyung, 66th). Belgium: Thibaut Courtois; Anthony Vanden Borre, Daniel Van Buyten, Nicolas Lombaerts, Jan Vertonghen; Steven Defour, Moussa Dembele, Dries Mertens (Divock Origi, 60th), Marouane Fellaini, Adnan Januzaj (Nacer Chadli, 60th); Kevin Mirallas (Eden Hazard, 88th). The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement had not been completed.Coming off a season-long suspension for violations of baseballs drug agreement and labour contract, Rodriguez is owed $61 million over the final three seasons of his $275 million, 10-year deal. The St. Babe Herman Jersey . Louis Blues remain at the top spot of the TSN.ca NHL Power Rankings, holding off the Chicago Blackhawks in both the rankings and the Central Division standings. The Minnesota Wild have continued their rise in the rankings, both by getting healthier and adding left winger Matt Moulson at the trade deadline. The Wild are up to 11, when they were ranked 20th prior to the Olympics. Even with an injury to starting goaltender Kari Lehtonen, the Dallas Stars have moved from 16 to 13, following the lead of centre Tyler Seguin, who is up to fifth in the NHL scoring race. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals each climbed three spots, to 17 and 18, respectively; the Leafs with one regulation loss in the past seven and the Capitals with some decent additions to the lineup, with goaltender Jaroslav Halak and left winger Dustin Penner added at the trade deadline as well as top prospect Evgeny Kuznetsov arriving from the KHL. It comes as no shock that the Montreal Canadiens miss injured goaltender Carey Price, but they havent recorded a regulation win since Price last started, a span of seven games. So, even with the addition of Thomas Vanek, the Habs fall from nine to 14. Four wins in five games would normally be just fine for the Columbus Blue Jackets, but they are missing half of their defence corps due to injuries at the moment, which results in a fall from 11 to 16. The Winnipeg Jets have one regulation win in the past seven games and lost rookie centre Mark Scheifele to a knee injury, which knocks the Jets from 14 to 19. Among the rest of the Canadian teams, The Vancouver Canucks are down from 22 to 23 after dealing Roberto Luongo to Florida, the Ottawa Senators are also down a spot with left winger Clarke MacArthur sidelined. The Edmonton Oilers continue at 26, one spot ahead of the Calgary Flames. Both teams have respectable recent records, but they have created some big holes and moved out some productive players. Connor Cook threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score, all in the first quarter, as Michigan State (2-1) found the end zone on its first five possessions. The Spartans finished with their highest point total in 25 years. They beat Northwestern 76-14 in 1989 and blanked Arizona 75-0 in 1949. Eastern Michigan (1-3) was outgained 320-1 in the first half and surrendered the games first 20 first downs. The Eagles have been outscored 155-17 by Florida, Old Dominion and the Spartans. "They were awesome, and obviously I got outcoached in every way," Eagles coach Chris Creighton said. "But I do want to say this: I believe in our guys. Im undeterred. We will have a wall up when we come out for our Homecoming game. Well knock it down again and run through it.". Michigan State finished with 336 yards rushing, 496 in total offence and held the Eagles to five first downs, eliminating some of the sour taste from a 46-27 loss at Oregon two weeks ago. "I think you are always moving forward," Dantonio said. "Our football team certainly is. We look at what is gone and past and just move on. We take 24 hours, handle this win, then move on to Wyoming." Cook wound up 5 for 6 for 83 yards before giving way to four other quarterbacks. Delton Williams led 10 Spartan ball carriers with 103 yards and three TDs on 10 carries. "Obviously, everyone had a bad taste in their mouths coming back from Eugene," Cook said. "We wanted to take our anger out on the opponent, whether it was Eastern, Nebraska, Wyoming, whomever. We wanted to come out and make this a statement game and put up some points." Cook opened the scoring with a 4-yard run on a read option, following a 43-yard punt return by Macgarrett Kings. Jeremy Langford made it 14-0 less than four minutes later with a 21-yard sweep of left end, juking the only Eagles tackler in sight. The defence joined the fun on the following snap, as Kurtis Drummond recovered a botched handoff at the EMU 23. Cook immediately found a wide-open Tony Lippett in the back of the end zone to go up by 21. Cook hit Lippett again for an 8-yard score, rolling right and throwing back toward the middle of the end zone. It was the Spartans fourth TD in 20 snaps, and they finished the quarter with a 213-7 edge in total offence. "My mom actually made me a plaque that says, Dont listen to criticism," All-America defensive end Shilique Calhoun said of the Oregon aftertaste. "You just need to play your game and focus what the coaches are trying to teach you. You dont want to worry about what people are saying, get too high off a win or get too low off a loss." Jan Vertonghen Jersey .The Ottawa Senators winger was relegated to a corner seat in the locker-room to allow Daniel Alfredsson to return to his regular stall one last time. Eden Hazard Jersey . Venable and Jeremy Hermida drove in three runs apiece, and the Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 7-2 on Sunday to snap a nine-game losing streak. http://www.belgiumsoccerauthority.com/ . -- Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf has been suspended two games for his hit from behind on Kevan Miller of the Bruins.Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Islanders sauntered into Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night to face the rival New York Rangers with a collective swagger not seen in almost three decades. That they walked out of the venerable building attached to Penn Station with a 3-0 victory to cap a seven-game cross-country road trip really doesnt matter. Jack Capuanos club stood toe-to-toe with one of the hottest clubs in the National Hockey League, in what was probably the most meaningful game between both bitter rivals since Game 5 of the 1984 Patrick Division Semifinals, and look to remain affixed at the forefront of the battle for the Metropolitan Division crown for the remainder of the schedule. Winning was just the icing on the cake. Our focus and attitude is all about how we prepare, Capuano told the New York Times after finishing the road swing an impressive 5-2-0. Its all about character and accountability. This was a big game with a lot of media attention, and I thought we played well. We have a lot of hockey left. It started and ended with goaltending. Henrik Lundqvist withered at a key time under a 44-shot barrage. Jaroslav Halak, on the other hand, stopped 27 shots to record his sixth shutout of the season and post his 23rd victory this year, in the process becoming just the second Islanders crease guardian to blank the Rangers in Manhattan and the fifth in franchise history to hold their older brothers off the scoreboard. Venerable troublemaker Billy Smith had been the first and only to record a whitewash on the road, turning the trick way back on Dec. 17, 1975, a 26-save effort which fueled a 3-0 win. In between, Mark Fitzpatrick, Tommy Soderstrom and Rick DiPietro also blanked the Rangers in the comfort of Nassau Coliseum. In the middle happened to be a three-goal second period which provided Halak all the offense he needed. The goals came from an American collegian (Anders Lee of Notre Dame), a Russian who plied his trade in the KHL before coming to North America (Nikolay Kulemin) and a Dane who arrived in the NHL via his native Scandinavia (Frans Nielsen). I think it was just being a little bit more sure of ourselves, no hesitation, Islanders captain John Tavares said. We went out in the second and you could see us just getting our game going and starting to wear them down, making them have to defend. Eventually we got rewarded. Certainly its going to make a lot of people on Long Island happy [Wednesday] morning. Were excited about beating them. With Tavares and Kyle Okposo shut down, the balance in scoring came to the forefront. The Islanders currently boast 16 players who have recorded at least 10 points so far. All of that kept the Orange and Blue one point up on Pittsburgh for the division lead, leap-frogged the club over the Lightning into first place in the Eastern Conference, and might have finally erased any lingering notions of an eventual second-half nose dive. Oh yeah, and the Islanders could be the first team in the East to 30 wins if they are on the correct side of the scoreboard again, in Friday?s showdown with the Pens at Uniondale. Its far and away a season beyond all expectations for a club some pundits picked to only make the playoffs, and it?s a wildly successful one already for a team poised to bid farewelll to the place it has called home for the last 42 years. Custom Belgium Jerseys. At the midway point of 2014-15, the team once ridiculed for their Etch-a- Sketch coaching and GM rotations along with their now retro-cool Gortons Fisherman logo, has vaulted into the level of the all-time greats. New York hit the halfway mark tied with Tampa Bay -- the Atlantic Division leaders -- with the most wins in the Eastern Conference at 27. Their 27-13-1 record stands as the franchises second-best mark at the middle of any season with only the 1978-79 Patrick Division and Clarence Campbell Bowl winners ranking higher at 28 victories, and their 55 points marks the most accumulated since the 1981-82 squad under Al Arbour collected the same amount. Their opponents, the Broadway Blueshirts, were no slouches, either. Heading into the opening faceoff, Alain Vigneaults charges were riding a 13-1-0 streak, their best run of success since going unbeaten in 15 games (14-0-1) during the middle portion of the 1972-73 campaign, and one which vaulted them from the dregs of the division into prime playoff positioning, a full 11 points ahead of idle Philadelphia. In the end, the Islanders laid waste to any outcome as a result of that momentum, winning for the fifth time in their last six trips to the Worlds Most Famous Arena -- a string of success not found in the Islander history books since February of 2000 through November of 2002. A team once best known for its prowess in the playoffs beyond regulation has a bright young hero doing the same thing in the regular season. Tavares picked up his seventh career OT marker in last Friday nights 3-2 win against the Devils in Newark, extending his franchise record. Even though a five-minute extra session was only implemented league-wide at the end of the clubs dynastic run in 1983, thats something that Messrs. Bossy, Trottier, Gillies, Sutter, Goring, Potvin, Tonelli or Nystrom never came close to achieving during their distinguished careers. The Islanders march toward a franchise-record in victories (54, 1981-82) has been aided by an incredible 11-1 record so far in games decided beyond the first 60 minutes of play. Thats certainly worthy of confidence, to know you can outlast an opponent before sending them home unhappy. Both New York franchises renew hostilities three more times before the end of the regular season: Jan. 27, Feb. 16 and Mar. 10, all on Long Island. Even if the Rangers took a number and are able to recall how the Islanders beat them at home twice and by a combined 9-3 count already, will it matter? Capuanos kids are 15-9-1 on the road but are an equally-impressive 14-4-0 on home ice. Only Tampa (16) and Toronto (15) have produced more positive results in their respective arenas among fellow conference clubs. There will be garment rending and gnashing of teeth by die-hards once the Islanders leave the comfort of the Mausoleum and the suburbs for the flash of the Barclays Center and the lure of street cred in Brooklyn at the end of the season. Until then, the Islanders seem bent on giving their fans one last shot at puffing out their collective chests to claim local bragging rights which were theirs for a solid decade from the mid 1970s through the mid 1980s -- a feeling which is long overdue both on and off the ice.
